Shopping list for 2013 track season

I always thought loading/unloading the bike by yourself was the only way?!

Guess I need to make some friends.

EDIT: is it a weight issue, or stiff steering dampener maybe?

Hawkeye showed me how to unload the bike off a pickup truck solo, I did it a few times if no one was around to help, it takes me forever but it worked. I wouldn't do it alone if someone was available though.

Anyway, hoping to get an enclosed trailer soon (just need to decide on a truck/suv to buy).

A general message to anyone loading or unloading a bike off a pick up truck. If there's anyone around, ask for help before you start. Not when the bike starts to fall away from you and you have to shout for help. I'm more than happy to help anyone with the process if it avoids the horrible sound of fibre glass contacting tarmac. Mate of mine has done it loads of times without incident, and is probably better on his own as he has his routine. I still prefer to stand next to him for that "oh ****" moment, should it ever happen.

^ exactly, I'll do the basic work and put it on the rear stand/take the straps off so I don't have to make anyone wait around and stare at the bike needlessly, but there's always a friend or friendly neighbour there to help me. I'll usually ask someone for help, take the straps off and get the ramp set up and call them when I'm ready.

If you have no choice but to do it alone (for whatever reason), then you should have two ramps. One for you, one for the bike. Much easier and safer.

Yeah I actually caught that after I posted, but left it as is to see the spelling nazi in action ;) But English is my 3rd language, so give me some credit, hehe

I bought so many things over the winter for the bike, I'm even putting in a slipper clutch from an 05 gsxr 1000 now with new oem fibers and plates, so that's not as cheap as I thought it would be, but hopefully totally worth it---pretty much the only thing I didn't like about the bike. But I feel like I'm in a vacuum now---I wanna do something more, yet, other than suspension which would require a more major investment, I don't know what else I can do to the bike. I feel like doing more stuff, just don't know what and where. See---for me it doesn't really make sense to "save now" for track-time, I don't have a problem spending such small chunks of money periodically. My problem is spending a lot at the same time---that's more "noticeable" on the family budget and upsets the better half, I'm sure you know what I mean...

Something that may be missing from your lists are fire extinguishers. I know I didn't add it to my toolkit until it was needed.

That actually is a really good idea, totally over looked that.

Thanks!

My vote for "actually useful post of the day". This is not something that has occurred to me but seems obvious now that you mention it. Ima buy me one.

But I don't get it (probably due to lack of experience): why do you need fire extinguishers in the pit? I always thought if it's catching fire, it's gonna be as a result of the crash somewhere out in the field..?!

After some thought, here are the things I should buy now:

1) radiator hose from rad to pump, my old one kinda looks like it's about to crack open

2) maybe an external powerful GPS receiver for my phone? I have one of those cheap lap timers, and although it does the job, I'm thinking if I can get more in terms of post ride analysis if I do it with the gps..

3) I see those motogp guys always wearing a chest protector. I've never seen anybody use them---what's the deal there?

Three words. Fuel.line.clip

Couple other things
Syphon, multimeter and spare batteries for said multimeter.

I bought an iPod Touch 4th gen with Harry's Lap Timer Pro app with 5hz GPS receiver: https://www.emprum.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=1

I've been driving around in my car with it, works great :) It has all the tracks around here already in it, with start/finish lines, sectors, etc. Should be good :D

If you jail break your device there are cheaper/faster GPS units available.

I love my Knox chest protector, feel naked without it. They're not just for moto gp riders or icon wearing timmies posers.

That is so untrue, it's untrue. Also, consider the amount of people running propane bbqs and heaters in the evenings at tracks. It isn`t just a bike thing. Trust me, from experience, bikes set on fire in pits. And trailers can catch fire easily enough when there`s naked flames around.

hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

I'm an Android guy, but from what I've read Harry's Lap Timer Pro is supposed to be the best. The idea of having a separate device just for that is attractive. Hence the question---does the iPod Touch need to be 4th gen, or it can be older ****?

Hmmm. Good question. I am not sure. The 4th gen records nice video, so it can be my dash cam/data acquisition cam at the same time as doing the GPS recording. Then I can have my GoPro facing back, on the tail maybe. Dunno.
