Shooting in Connecticut

violence will happen every where, regardless

the best we can do is mitigate the fatalities and collateral damage.... I would say its a tad easier to up the body count with a firearm vs a sharpened object... making it harder to get guns will not erase the problem but it stands to reason it may have a positive impact.

Gun control and all that is great but finding a gun on the black market is pretty much easier then getting a license and registering it. At the rate that guns are being manufactured there is no way you are going to be able to stop it. If you outlaw them 100%, it's just gonna make underground sales all the more popular. How hard is it to find a local drug dealer that sells pot ? I bet I can find one on just about every street corner.

I get your point but I think you're reaching when you're comparing the selling of marijuanna to illegal firearms.

A lot of people DON'T smoke weed for that very reason, btw. If they could walk into a dispensary, all legit, without fear of doing anything illegal, I'd bet dollars to donuts that we'd have a lot more pot heads out there.

along the same line of thinking, everyone I know would own a handgun if it were as simple as flashing some ID and plunking down a few hundred dollars at a gun store.... its the process, hassle, background checks, etc, etc etc that dissuade most people, simply because it isn't worth the hassle.... this equates to less guns in the homes of people.... people who can go nuts for whatever reason, catch your wife cheating on you, bad day at work, drug addiction, have remainders left over when doing long division, etc. Humans are emotional by nature and by allowing guns to be in every single one of our hands, really doesn't seem to be the answer...

Death is to easy a punishment for some crimes. People like this piece of **** deserve a hell of a lot worse.

The thought that goes through my mind is would we recommend killing a person carrying a transmitable disease like ebola. If we treated mental illness like we treated physical diseases the answer would likely be no.

Therefore if the gunman survived and we considered him mentally ill he shouldn't be executed. Needless to say any such person should be put into quarantine for life.

I am to a degree relieved that the gunman absolved us from having to make that decision.

If you haven't figured out the difference yet, I'll point it out to you. 22 children were stabbed, NO ONE DIED. Comparing a gun to a knife is like comparing that knife to a toothpick.

I think what he's trying to point out is that there are nutcases out there. real monsters. And they will inflict their harm on society. with or without gun bans.

obviously guns can do more damage.

That's the country where everyone has a gun to supposevely defend themselves.

In the unlikely event of the USA getting the citizens to rid themselves of guns I wonder how they get the criminals to give theirs up first?

I am on another forum that is U.S. based,
And there is a lot of debate going on now.
They are so ingrained into the "right to bear arms" that it would be impossible to ask citizens of the U.S to give up their guns.
They have dug themselves so deep in the gun culture that they will never get out.
We will see these massacres happening more and more often now, as nuts that want to die decide to take out as many innocent lives as they can.
That way they are immortalized in the history books.

Somehow with all the criminals with guns in other countries (even Canada), number of such occurrences in those countries is much lower than in the United States. It's the access to guns. This nutcase had a completely free access to those weapons. Why? Because his mom bought/owned them and he had access to those.

Personally, I wouldn't want to live anywhere close to a place where you can buy AK-47 in any corner pawn shop. As much as I disagree with bs laws in Canada (e.g. cannot even defend your family in your own house), this is much worse. How can you feel safe about your family - your wife going to work, your kids going to school, your family going shopping or to a movie theater - when 1 out of 3 people around you carry/have concealed weapons. How can you go to a movie with your wife/girlfriend without fear that there is a very good chance that some crazy person with free access to guns can walk in and start shooting? How can you let you kids go to school without fear that some idiot will not just walk in and kill them?!

There is 1 gun for every 3 canadians in this country. Are you paranoid about walking around here as well?
In general normal people don't go on shooting sprees. This kid wasn't all there. This could have just as easily happened in canada.

We are not immune to crazy people, remember the guy on the greyhound? Danzing shooting this summer? Eaton center? All in a country where you cannot carry a gun, yet crazy people and criminals do not care.

Simple minds blame guns, those who have a little more brain capacity understand its a much deeper issue with many variables. But pointing at an object and screaming "evil" isnt going to solve anything

^^^ yes but not talking about the possibility that a culture ingrained in a particular society is also not to blame doesn't achieve much either. Personally I think there's a huge mindset difference between the US and Canada that means we see less of this crap and what we do see is carry over or copycat from the US in a lot of cases (gang violence). Much like I think many people in Toronto shouldn't be allowed to drive because they just show no aptitude for it, it seems that many people in the US just shouldn't be allowed to keep guns because they are not responsible enough.

Simple minds also discount the impact of certain weapons.
The ability to discharge a large amount of ammunition in a short amount of time has a very direct effect on body count.

.

Watch it to the end, its only a couple minutes long but explains a lot. Common sense really

That particular one happened in Germany that has strict gun laws.

1989 and you usually have to dig back a fair ways to find the really bad shootings in this country. For the US you can go back to last month or the month before to find one.

10 times the population isnt going to increase the number of events eh? A weekend course and the same can happen here, not much of a roadblock.

Ya Danzig wasnt bad.

The same gun license in Canada can get a bolt action rifle or semiauto.

so what do you suggest? banning everything that a crazy person can use to cause harm to others?

it will be a pretty boring place to live after we get rid of all the cars, planes, knives, bats, electricity, fire, etc...

people get so charged up when something like this happens that all logic seems to fly out the window.

there were mass shootings in the past and there will be mass shootings in the future. make all the laws you want, ban everything you want but you cannot ban someone whos determined enough to cause some serious damage. example timothy mcveigh
