What is the purpose of this thread?
Is it to show everyone you bought a new pricey lid with a fancy visor?

The photosensitive lens looks like a waste of money. It has all that plastic stuck to it I doubt you can see through.

Yup,
$1.00 helmet buyers probably haven't crashed hard enough to care what's on there head..
100+ mph gear safety and quality is more important than whether you got a Chinese eBay helmet for $29.99
But that's why I believe in natural selection.

Transition lens is for endurance racing. Weather changes to much in 3 hrs.
Last year I used the insert version. Worked well but photocells weakened with 1 season. Hoping this style will last the 5 yr life of the helmet.

5 yr single helmet users probably haven't raced hard enough to care about blowing a grand on one helmet

There are lots of helmets in between no-name chinese ones and $800 shoei's.

Very true,
My personal taste for comfort and quiet was the Shoei.
I've tried others, but my head doesn't get pressure points from the Shoei fit.
It a personal preference, nothing more, no different than the folks that like HJC's or Arai...

Can a track guy please confirm that you are able to dial in how hard you want to crash?
Who makes this device?
thx

My first year racing I hit the ground head first at 80 ish mph...
Sparkly stars and scratched up helmet shell but nothing else. That was the deciding point not to cut corners on quality.

The whole idea of the thread was so if someone was looking into the X-14. They could ask questions before they drop $800.

Are you joking? lol I never know anymore

The transition lenses are amazing, I have one for my street lid and not having to change visors or carry two visors it's worth the money. PLus like Paul said, for a 3 hours endurance race, we have gone from Sun to rain to snow all in one race so they are very useful.

There are other considerations about having an expensive helmet, for a racer the vision angle when you are tucked in is a consideration, for example I can not use Arai for a race, I simply can not see in front of me, but a shoei is great.

Also ventilation is another huge consideration so if I find all these things perform well in one helmet I will pay whatever it costs.

So I appreciate the post and will look into this helmet as soon as I need a new one.

I'm sure if you were showing off your sweet bargain bin helmet people would be asking where you got a
sweet deal on it. Instead you get people with stupid comments.

Nice lid, it's on my short list of helmets for this season as my Shark is about to be retired (too old).

I don't care what people have for lids, I'm not sponsored by shoei so there is no gain for me. It wasn't a bargain...lol. But I had the 12 they stopped making them, so I went to the 14. Simple as that... For the other shoei fans out there the point was to answer any odd questions that someone might have before going to the 14 vs other shoei's

I would ask if you would consider it for the street, but ostensibly you haven't been able to use it yet

I ordered myself the bell pro star but that has been delayed until August 1, what do you think about the pro star vs x14? Both of them are ridiculously a lot.

I looked at the pro star at the bike show. I tried one on and I got pressure spots from the helmet ( fits like an Arai). My skull is more oval vs round. I really liked the bell but it didn't fit my head, seems really well done and it's nice and light.

What show was this? As far as i know, the 2016 bell star line up including the new pro star, race star and regular star are not out in Canada yet.

January show, sh*t maybe I'm thinking of wrong Bell helmet..
It was a carbon/Kevlar mix. Really nice..
We talked about the pro star. ($1400) if I remember correctly...
I really didn't look at the helmet he got me to try on. I assumed it was the pro star.
My bad sorry if it wasn't.

Ahahaha no worries, the one you tried one was probably the bell star carbon. Unfortunately, the 2016 line up is delayed, especially the pro star (1400) and race star (700+) but the regular stars should be out soon. I'm gonna look into the x-14, how much did Tony charge you for it?

Not really sure, grabbed other stuff with it.
It would be around $825 ish by itself. I tend not to look at the receipt, it bring reality to what I spend doing this hobby. Lol
