Shoei X-14 just got from Bluestreak

Where did you buy and how much?

I got it from GPBikes. I paid whatever their sticker price is ($750ish) -20% with that coupon. I wore it today riding around a bit. Baffles in/out I noticed the sound dampening is much better than my Icon.

Lots of helmets pass the same tests and at a certain point you're just getting more padding or a better visor change mechanism etc. I'm happy with my closeout Shark helmets from STG. I'd like to try a Shoei at some point but I'd need a good deal on one.
Pretty much. Lighter weight, quieter, better ventilation, better aerodynamics, more comfortable etc etc. Not disputing higher end helmets aren't better, but safer? That's arguable

A $800 helmet will protect your head better than a $200 helmet =

Where do you people get your information?

You mean that there is 2 different standards for SNELL? An expensive model & a cheaper model?

There's plenty
Start naming them. Under $200, not on sale or close out.

There are a few, a half dozen perhaps, but not what I would call "plenty" .

Iceman's FG-17, incidentally, is a great value.

Well plenty means "more than enough" so I suppose we could argue what enough is.

HJC has several alone, FG-17 and CL-17 are both around $150 Canadian.

Again I'm in no way saying higher end helmets aren't better..I've raced in and crashed in lots of helmets..from $100 to $600. High end ones are nicer, no question.

edit-looks like the FG-17 is regularly a bit more than that, but there's always something on sale or closeout. I have a CL-17, the FG is a little nicer though. I'm pretty sure that's what Newman uses

Why all the hostility? Simple answer is.....poly bad...glass good. Pretty paint and extras, good for you, carry on happily.

I still have a CL-16 that I bought in 2012 for under a $100

It is snell 2010 approved

Time to start an oil thread. These helmet debates get old.

How is the viewport? I ask because on my rf1200, fully tucked, I can't fully see everything I want. Not sure if it's because I'm too short or what lol

Bell Vortex
HJC FG-17
HJC CL-16
HJC CL-17
Joe Rocket R1000X
Scorpion EXO-R410

And those are just the ones I'm aware of off the top of my head that are all sub $200 CDN and Snell approved.

The Transition visors are absolutely awesome. Have one on my Bell and it was worth every single penny.

is the rf1200 a racing helmet or a touring helmet? I thought racing helmets had a different view as they were meant to be worn in a tucked position as opposed to a helmet on a touring bike where you're sitting more upright? My Shark Rsr2 racing helmet has a different view through the visor than my shark modular.

The FG-17 actually retails anywhere from $250-299 depending on the year/design. I'm looking into purchasing a large lot of them for my work and selling them Snell rated for sub $200. But yes, they are a good helmet, Both N3WMAN and I wear them and I have seen quite a few others around the track. Best fitting and feeling helmet I've ever had.

It's a racing helmet. It might be my headshape actually as if I move the helmet up a little I can see but it'll eventually fall again but my RF1100 saved my *** so I'm a bit biased.
