*Shocking News: Reports of billions of dollars in ineligible COVID benefit payments

Until we can figure out how to convince you and others otherwise, the country will continue to get worse.
Easy. Show me a fiscally responsible platform that considers the climate as well as the economy and doesn't have a noticable cant to either the left or right. Easy Peasy right?

Hell, any single one of those things is beyond the ability of our politicians of any colour.

When it comes to EVERY politician, there is only two rules.

#1. They don't care about you.
#2. If you think otherwise, refer to rule one.

Fear of cons is real. There is no level the libs can rise to that would make some people vote con.
Totally agree. Ex-gf a few years back was Toronto (Leslieville) born and raised. Many lifelong friends in her circle, Toronto born and raised as well. I was really astonished at how left leaning most were. In our newly formed co-ed soccer team, the captain asked that we announce our pronouns to each other, in addition to our names, prior to the opening game. OK, that's new, but if it makes everyone feel comfortable... Then one day, one of the players was visibly upset on the bench, almost to the point of breaking down in tears. I ask what's wrong, if everything's OK. He says, "climate change, something needs to be done..." I was shocked - I thought maybe his dog died or something. Maybe he found his purpose in life and ended up blocking cars in the UK... All very nice people, but I could not connect. Relationship ended there, but I'm glad I was exposed to it to understand another perspective. Anyway, to the point, there is no way in hell these folks would vote Conservative. Maybe NDP with insta-fabulous Jagmeet.

The only time I have seen people worry to that level about climate change, race relations, abortions, or any other world wide issue…is when they have literally no problems of their own to deal with.

Well off, obligation free type of lifestyles that don’t have anything local to deal with…so they find purpose in higher causes.

I personally have enough day to day things to deal with to focus much of my remaining energy on world issues.

The government was shoveling money out the door and there were very few checks or balances in the process. Many people knew they either did not qualify or that their business would not be impacted, but applied anyway, took the money and likely thought there would be no consequences.

Some people are liars and cheats, is this news to anyone? If the Feds can track this down through CRA or other systems and force people or businesses to refund money they were not eligible for then more power to them.

They can. They won't in most cases. They bought their minority. People will remember if you take back the bribe.

Exactly. This will be nothing more than an 'Ooops...Lesson Learned. Sorry all. We'll do better next time.'

Pulling the money now will just upset people, and they'll much more remember the Liberals as 'those mother effers that stole money from me'.

you can have the opposite on the other side of the spectrum, where people will have a bad day and get mad because of "immigrants stealing jobs" and "the gays being too loud" or those "cyclists and motorcyclists acting all entitled, get a real vehicle" or how "transit is stealing my tax money but it's useless as no one uses it (said from their pick up truck they don't actually use for pick up truck duties ever)"

Being able to connect with people all along the political spectrum is what makes great societies i find, and it used to be a bit more like that, where people would be living in similar neighbourhoods and have people with different ideologies/political affiliations talking to and interacting with each other and maybe even get a better understanding of each other. Now i see more echo chambers which breed a lot of ignorance and depth of understanding of an issue at hand. I think what we need is less of a 2-party system (cause let's be real that's what is happening election after election) and a more open system. But i doubt that we'll see this type of reform in my lifetime

The by-election in my area has... ~40 candidates.
A group of independents decided to all apply and get the signatures to basically protest the current lack of reform that was promised a mandate and a half ago. That message will most likely go under the radar and be ignored. I already see people commenting about it saying they were not "respecting our system by doing that".

A friend's son worked at a prestigious private golf course in Toronto and usually the members kids get hired over the summer at the club, but the first summer of COVID there was a real shortage of kids as many had claimed the $500 week SERB so they just plated golf instead.
His son (not a member) got 60 hours a week and worked his butt off and made lots of money.

Lots of those guys around. My buddies tried hiring people but everyone was scared of COVID so they couldn’t work…

But for cash…they could make an exception and risk COVID at work.

... and which is not corrupt and has at least some level of competence.

I expect to be waiting a long time, and until then, voting for whoever has the fewest number of strikes against them and isn't the incumbent.

Reason for not voting for the incumbent is that the longer anyone stays in office, the more opportunity for corruption they have. So, one and done, then give 'em the boot.

even Hazel did not quite avoid some taint.

I don't like the fast turn over of leadership. Worse in Australia with only 3 year terms for parliament....they are always campaigning and not leading.
What is really needed is the oversight bodies be given some teeth to keep the pols in line.

Hazel was a grifter like the rest of them. Doing everything to push along her son's (or son in law's) developments.

I also think I read somewhere she championed the Green Belt deal so her family could develop on it.

Each and every one of them is the same. If not at the start...then the end of their career.
