SOHad a really good Friday night with this one:
Not very strong IMO, extremely smooth. Notes of toffee and nutinness.... also had a great after taste, highly recommended!
Btw if anyone in Sauga ever needs a bottle that's there, i work next door and live south sauga... of course im not a delivery service but for now i could prolly help, just PM away. And Queens Quay.
I got 12 yr recently. I like it. My brother who's a Scotch fanatic not so much.SO
Just had a glass, cold (with my cold steels) and you are right, much smoother.
From my beginner perspective, its smoother than the Jura origins BUT it's not as flavourful.
Taste is still great though. Thanks for the "recommendation"
Did a bit of scotch tasting and trading over the Christmas season. A few notes:
Bowmore Darkest 15 - comparable to a Lagavulin 16 but uniquely different. A huge bodied scotch with a bit of smoke and peat but not overpowering. Nice ever-changing spicey/chocolate taste and a great finish. An excellent choice with a cigar. Don't be afraid to try this one no matter what your taste. (added to my collection)
Glenmoragie Nectre D'Or 12 - Only a few oz's into this one but so far not my type. White-grape with bourbon nose and taste. White-wine is far too pronounced for my taste. (added to collection).
Glenmorangie Quenta Ruben - Maybe too much sherry in this one (and I prefer a sherry cask finish). Prefer the Genmorangie Rare 18.
Glendronach Revival 15 - this is actually a 19yr old as they haven't bottled in a few years. Didn't find it smooth and not overly enjoyable. May need to breathe a bit.
Ardbeg Corryvreckan - bit of a peat-monster but a very nice full-bodied dram. Nice option if you want something smokier than a Lagavulin 16.
Glenlivet 12 - unrefined as opposed to others in this age bracket. Not impressive in any way.
Glenlivet 18 - a wonderful nose followed by a truly impressive taste. Smooth and refined. Underpriced and exceptional. Similar to a high-end Macallan in taste but still unique.
Balvenie Caribbean 14 - the taste didn't flow well together and I couldn't like this no matter how much I wanted to.
Hibiki (Japanese Harmony) - My first Japanese whiskey and I hope others are better. Not much of a body and no finish. Truly forgetable. I've heard the Hibiki 12 is quite good (and cheaper).
Macallan Whiskey Makers Edition - even better than the Macallan sherry 12. Wonderful nose/body/finish. Pricey but well-crafted scotch that shows its heritage.
what kind of taste are we talking boutBought a bottle of The Glenrothes yesterday.Very nice for the $59 price.
I ran into this pic. Might be useful if you're trying out things.

Try the glenlivet 15 yo oak barrel batch. It's nicer then the 18 yo I think.
