Scotch anyone?

If that's all they have at the corner store when I'm in a pinch in the USA... I can stomach it on many many rocks.

To be honest, I'd rather wait for the ice to melt and drink that.

Had a friend bring me back a "Macallan 1824 Whiskey Makers Edition" from Ireland last week. Also having a Macallan 12 Sherry brought back next week. The 12 is my dad's fav but I'm giving him the 1824 for Christmas and bringing the 12 just in case he doesn't like it. Going to be at least a couple dozen scotches in the house at Christmas for tasting :)

I'm down under for now. Alcohol in general is considerably expensive here on average, except for the Johnny Walker Blue, which is $175 for the 700 ml bottle, compared with $300+cad at LCBO. I can bring back two bottles OR I might just bring back some really good Tassie whiskies that are truly beyond compare. Decisions...decisions.

How about one of each?

I'm not a fan of scotch but I could use a suggested pick as a gift for a friend who likes scotch for the holidays. Your help us appreciated. $100 budget. Maybe a little more not much.

Not knowing your friend's tastes makes it a little tricky, but I would steer clear of peaty scotches just in case.

I'd propose Aberlour A'bunadh or Glenfarclas 105. Both are excellent and heavy on sherry flavors, which most people enjoy.

I'm gonna check-in here too - my friends are all exploring scotches (and ever increasingly expensive ones! ugh), while me being the cheapass I am, find it more fun to find the best bang-for-buck whiskeys (scotch blends, ryes and burbons). My suggestions:

Ryes: Collingwood, 40 Creek (the spiked ones are awesome, but very sweet), CC, Wiser's
Burbon: Woodford Reserve, Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey

Gonna go back through this thread for scotch suggestions, but I'm not too into smokey whiskeys, and I like a medium-peat taste (I guess). Also, I drink it ALL on ice.

Glen Livet 12, 15 & 18 are amazing. Glenfiddich is similar, but not as nice as the Livet IMO. Glenmorangie & The Glenrothes are great, too. Ballentines is a great cheap blend, too LOL.

Can't go wrong with Glen Livet 12. Very popular, reasonable price (~$75 for the 750ml), i think.

Lagavulin 16 is a staple everywhere good scotch is served. Awesome stuff indeed.

I was given a "Distiller's Edition" at my wedding - I believe it starts out as a 16 and it spends a bit more time in fancy sherry casks. It's unbelievable.

Lagavulin 16 is my go-to when I'm in the mood for a smoky scotch as is my dad so we'l definitely try that Distiller's Edition out. Thanks for the heads up on that one.

I know I'm most likely to be $@it on by the scotch elitist but I say drink what you like, and when it comes to scotch for me it's JB rare 12 year blended on the rocks.
Over the night I could easily go through a bottle.

Haha no dude, many pages ago i posted about McClelland which is pretty cheap and is my everyday (not literally) scotch.
If you can find something you like and is more affordable, do it. You can drink more scotch that way lol
