Sammy Yatim's friend shot and killed by police

When someone (armed or unarmed) breaks into your home and threatens your family, who will you call? Wouldn't want an armed/ unarmed (good kid) getting shot by police over a misunderstanding. Perhaps you can make him a coffee and psychoanalyze him for a while and then determine who to call. His parents, girlfriend, brother... I am calling the police because I don't care what your story is, I have the right to be safe! If the police shoot you, not my fault. Obey the law= NOT being shot!

Obey the law= NOT being shot!

I hope this encompasses trespassing crown land and spitting on the sidewalk. Not for the actual breach of law, maybe, but surely for bad attitude.

laws are not absolute and those in power make laws to protect themselves. In states they just made it illegal to film the police. It is now against the law. Do you think it makes sense? Do you think that s a just law?

Because according to your point, if you film the police, you can get shot and you deserve it,

And im not commenting on your entire post. Just the last part

So if somebody comes to my home & try to firebomb me & I fired a few rounds, I get into big trouble. If cops kill someone for mistaking a gun for a phone, nothing happens.

Got that

Citation, please. One or two states attempted to pass such a law some time ago, only to have courts declare it unconstitutional.

"We more-or-less saw what happened that led to the Sammy Yatim shooting. We don't know what led to this one. But still ... You don't get randomly shot by the cops for walking down the street minding your own business. Something must have happened. "

This isn't the point...cops shouldn't be shooting people regardless of what happened before hand. Unless you have rampaged and killed people already.

I don't disagree. But still ... For two people who knew each other to both be shot and killed by police, given how rarely this occurs in the population as a whole, there is more going on than random statistical probability.

I don't have faith in the system. Among many other problems, the SIU is broken.

BUT.

We more-or-less saw what happened that led to the Sammy Yatim shooting. We don't know what led to this one. But still ... You don't get randomly shot by the cops for walking down the street minding your own business. Something must have happened.
I don’t mean to throw race in here Brian, but this is a very white point of view. I have many black friends that would disagree with that statement. That being said, I agree in principle.

(I don’t know in fact if Brian is white, just sayin')

You say it's a phone. His family (predictably) says it was only a phone. Yet early reports was that the fight involved someone brandishing a gun, and subsequent leaks say there was a handgun found on the body.

If it was a phone, it wouldn't take much effort to light up the screen and end any ambiguity over what it is, although even then that still wouldn't preclude him having a gun in his other hand. Phone vs handgun in the dark changes the picture quite a lot, don't you think?

Racial profiling is indeed one of the many problems. But even STILL ... you don't get randomly shot at by cops just by being black.

Would be pretty easy to compile a list.

That's retarded. Cops (and anyone else) should defend themselves with lethal force whenever necessary.
