Running from police.

Strange fact here....the people stopped in the "media stunt"...were breaking the law......by their own admission.

So were 99% of the rest of the people on the 400 that day too. They were singled out well in advance. The media "just happening to be there" for the "big bust" proves it. You know this, but your weak form of selective arguing is to leave out pertinent facts.

Great..so then summarising, by your own words, people that broke the law got stopped.

Fantastic, so basically you're just annoyed that people do actually get caught when doing something wrong which is precisely the attitude of many here. Bit juvenile that really isn't it?

Polly wants a cracker......raaawwwk.

I believe the number was 45 people ticketed for speeding that day, of which only 3 speeding tickets and 1 warning were given to the speeding Mini parade. If the Minis were "singled out", then what happened to the other 40+ people who got speeding tickets that day at that location? Collateral damage?

Try reading that again. The 45 tickets were within the patrolled area, not that one spot. And once again, you conveniently omit the crucial fact that the MINIs were going with the flow of traffic, which means everyone was speeding, and they were singled out in a preemptive OPP media stunt.

I'll give you credit. You're training your bird well.

Why was there a media presence if it was a routine speed trap?

That "location" is that stretch of highway, and that was the main patrol focus point for the day. When the OPP has an aircraft out, the focus is on providing enough ground units to make the cost of running the plane worthwhile. That means units available on both sides of a given stretch of divided highway. Plane flies north, bags a few northbound cars and while the ground units are writing them up, plane turns around and bags a few southbound cars for the ground units on the other side of the highway, and then the cycle repeats. That stretch is where the bulk of those 45 speeding tickets were issued that day.

Even according to a couple of members of the Mini club, that day the OPP were seen targeting speeders on both northbound and southbound stretches of Highway 11 between the 400 and Memorial.

Whether or not everyone on that highway was speeding to the same extent is debatable but even if it was was in fact true, it would be not be that relevant. The Minis were a 40+ parade of speeding cars. That made them a prime candidate to be stopped.

Only 3 of them got speeding tickets. If the intent was to target the entire group, I'm sure more tickets could have been issued to more members of the parade. After all, the plane had a lot of km in the 90 kmph zone in which to track them.

Why was there a media presence if it was a routine speed trap?

Typical public awareness campaign. In a few weeks the media will be with them at northbound 400 service centers for cottage-bound boat, camping and utility trailer inspections. A week or so ago, the media was with the OPP during a truck blitz. And last weekend they were with the OPP on a speeding blitz. Listen to the Monday night Barrie A-Channel news segment on speeding. It was about more than just Minis.

I see so the media just happened to be at that exact spot and time as the bulk of tickets were issued....to the Mini parade...yeah

And if they only ticketed 3 out of all the Minis stopped....how is that NOT a publicity stunt?

If the Mini parade had been tracked by the plane and stopped by a fleet of OPP vehicles on a remote obscure road in the middle of nowhere, you might have a point.

But this happened on the main north-south thoroughfare to cottage country, right where you often see speeding traffic in significant numbers. The Minis were bagged by their choice of popular route and by their poor luck to be on that route on a day it was the subject of a focused speed enforcement campaign, and not by some supposed sting operation set up and aimed specifically at them.

Yes professor! I have been nice with 0 attitude many times, still got the yellow receipts at the end. In fact the ones with an attitude problem were the cops themselves. That's why the majority of the people can't stand these holier than thou, do as I say not as I do hypocrites in blue.
These are the same people I see every day speeding in their cruisers, turning/changing lanes without signalling, running stop signs, parking in handicap spots, sidewalks to get coffee...
So spare me your lectures please, NO ATTITUDE!

This is true, they are ALWAYS speeding!!! and NEVER use their turn signals, one almost ran into me because he didnt check his blind spot and i didnt see him because his blinker wasnt on!!

What in the world does this have to do with the fact that

A) The Media was there at the exact same time the Mini club rolled through

B) The entire convoy was pulled over "in front of the cameras" and only 3 were ticketed.

C) An OPP bike cop trailed them and didnt do anything, yet at the exact point of the trap with the cameras everybody gets pulled over?

They had the route. Why bother using a plane, when you know when and where they'll be?

A) Bad luck.

B) Only three got speeding tickets? Better luck. In front of cameras? Cameras were there for a story on speeding. Minis were speeding. Guess where speeding cars were being pulled over? In front of cameras that were there for a story on speeding. The Minis happened to make the news because it was an odd situation as far as speeding stops go.

C) Where was the OPP motorcycle along side them? The largest part of the parade route was between Toronto and the 400/11 split. OPP bike could have been with them back on Highway 400 in a 100 zone. They were stopped for speeding on Highway 11 in a 90 zone. Different place, different highway, different speed limit.

Their route was not a unique one. Their being stopped for speeding was not a unique event in that locale that day. Do you really think that the OPP lined up an aircraft, a bunch of ground units, and the media for a Mini parade doing 30 to 35 km over the limit? I could see it for the Gumball 3000, but not for this.

Problem is, these are the same tax collectors who give the guys in the Ferrari Club of Canada escorted high speed runs up Hwy 10 with kids from Variety Village in their cars. Does the OPP condone some charity events, and not others?

Here is the thread from Southern Ontario Mini Forum.

They made the mistake of notifying the police of their group ride. Quote "BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF MINIs INVOLVED, I HAVE BEEN OBLIGED TO INFORM THE OPP OF THE DETAILS OF THIS CRUISE .... INCLUDING THE COLOSUS TO WEBERS LEG. "

Not sure why they felt the police needed to be notified.

I wonder if Hells Angels notify the OPP with the route before their rides :laughing8:

LOL....So the mini org notifies the OPP of the route of the ride, and its "bad luck" that cameras are there when the Minis go through, and then good luck that all of them get pulled over and only 3 of them get speeding tix...even you can't believe this is even remotely coincidental :laughing8:
