Robbers Data Network Down

I’m on freedom as well and everything has been running ducky here.

All of our work equipment, on the other hand, dead as a doorknob. Telematics, dead. Dispatch communication, dead. E-Log interfaces, dead.

Someone, somewhere at our head office is pulling their hair out right now I’m sure.

Actually no joke (not sure if you were sarcastic or not...) but China and Russia have been going to town with US network attacks for a while. Did we get in the crossfire? <_<

Who knows...much of what that group does is to see what is possible and give it a check mark on the “things we can do in a war” sheet. Russia knows no one is going to war over not being able to watch pron during the day.

JT won't even get off the couch to defend pron?

Tabarnak.

No issue with my cell phone on Bell. Is this strictly effecting cell service? I just talked to my dad who was trying to figure out if he screwed something up on his cell phone (with rogers). He can text, just can't call anyone. Home internet down?

nah, home internet is fine.

rumour is some people have issues. I don't know why there isn't a constructive press release. Losers.
If they admit being down, a million calls come in, when's the fix, what happened?

Answer: We haven't a clue.

Therefore never admit there's a problem until you've fixed it and the spin doctors have laid the blame on someone else.

They already published that wait times if you call in were three hours plus, they were working on the problem and they had no idea when it was going to be fixed. If they weren't a duopoly, they could also easily publish a list of their services and known issues so that it would be easy for people to determine if their personal issues were related to a global problem. Companies like Teksavvy do it as they are actually trying to compete to be better than the competition.

Calling in accomplishes nothing anyways - the first level droids answering the calls are just going to repeat the same "We're very sorry, we are working hard to restore service as soon as possible" script they've probably already read 500 times already during their shift. These people have absolutely zero ability to do anything aside from make a note on your account that you called.

I feel for these people - you KNOW there's a lot of people who are upset right now who are calling these CS reps and absolutely tearing into them. Do people think that it's their fault? Do people think they can just push a few buttons on their computer at home (because they're all working from home right now) and somehow magically bring the network back up? Yelling at these people accomplishes nothing either.

It's one of those things where you just gotta accept that it's being worked on and besides that...be patient.

If Robbers was truly sorry and not just pretending to care, they would automatically credit all accounts with an amount at least double the downtime. Instead, they force you to call in and ***** and moan and then throw you a scrap. The less they spend on reliability the more profitable their business is. I am so glad we have the CRTC watching out for us.

I remember maybe 5 or 6 years ago Freedom (well, Wind at the time) went down and I believe they provided a small goodwill credit to all accounts because of such without needing to call and ask/complain to get it. It was one of those things that endeared me to them to this day. I want to say Teksavvy has done something similar over the years - I like them too.

Admittedly this is a pretty big screwup on behalf of Rogers - a few hours I can understand, but it's well over 12 hours at this point.

Just got home from work and my wife has had an unexpectedly light day at work because she can't get ahold of 75% of the people she's trying to contact on their Rogers work phones. Oddly enough her work phone is on Bell.

If this is this widespread, this must have had a quantifiable impact on business in the province (country?) today. If some amatuer or professional economists ballpark that number, I'd bet it would get repeated and make a telecom or two hot around the collar...

Forget economic, get a few 911 stations to say their call volume was down 50% today. There sure as hell weren't 50% less people needing help.

I'm sure the lawyers have made sure that the contract everyone signed (but never read) covers their ass for all this without any actual legal peril.

The only possible repercussion is people get pissy and move their service to another carrier. Hopefully some people do speak with their wallets on this one.

Except the other carriers have also had similar issues in the last few years and they all likely will in the next.... sh it happens.

True, but a statement like "Rogers service outage in Ontario cost $x.x million this week" is not great for their brand image which they very much do value

Do you get your lease payments paid or a refund on your car purchase if your car breaks down for a day or 2? No. Get over it people .
As a side note the title of this thread is silly...the Rogers family are fantastic people ...Ted was super enjoyable to talk to and travel with as well. A real great human being who made you feel comfortable always. Edward his son and his wife are some of my favourite people also. And I am harsh and hate pretty much everyone usually
