RIM Playbook. Limited sale... $200

I have given up on RIM, PB, BB10 and all. Nearly a month away from their big release and zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeero hype or promos.

I wasn't too happy with Android gingerbread 15 months ago when I got the Sony tablet as it was more a toy than a productive gadget....and the battery life sucked!

The PB I picked up 6 months ago for $170 baaaaaaaaaaaaarely matched gingerbread for an OS, and lagged badly behind in apps. Even the complicated Android side loaded apps were unstable and had reduced functionality....not to mention they were limited in numbers anyways.

So, my father buys my daughter a Samsung Note 10.1 and I am blown away with how Android has leaped ahead with Jellybean. I talk up the sales guy and he points me to the Note2 as the tablet wont meet all my needs.

I fiddled with it for 2 weeks at various stores, and become cautiously impressed. I also hear my IT department, bound by our government clients, who did not let me have an iPhone 6 months ago, are now allowed to issue iPhones to renewing contracts of my fellow colleauges!!! So that means PDA data plans have been approved, as opposed to exclusively BEZ (BB) data plans.

So now my only hurdle is to get my IT dept. to allow an Android device, but I took the risk and pulled the trigger on an off-plan Note2 anyways.

Using the Note2 as a tablet alone, already embarrasses the PB and here is why:

Android apps don't hang like PB apps!
Android apps crush PB apps for productivity.
Android apps offer more for free (that are useful) than does PB.
Note2 dwarfs PB battery life.
BB Bridge is a total battery drain on two devices, and a hassle to keep turning off and on again when necessary.
Note2 voice dictation and handwriting recognition is AMAZING and accurate!
Android (fre) app that photographs and digitizes text from a hardcopy paper is STUNNING!!! That alone is a serious productive business app!!!
Note2 speed crushes PB's slow (Native) email, calendar start up.
Note2 reboot after battery removal is 19 seconds! PB is over 4 mins on a RESET!!!! BB Curve battery removal reboot is 3:26!!!!!
I have even experienced problems with PB video recorder hanging up and slow camera responses!!! These are native base functions of the device!

Cons:
Android (free) games are out classed by the PB games offered for free on very limited time windows.

All the PB short comings come post updates too!!!

I mean the list goes on...but you get the idea why I would rather pull the trigger on a chance that I may or may not even be able to use the Note2 as a phone for work, over continuing to use anything BB.

Without fail, every year a bb handset gets the whitescreen of doom, and I have to be reissued a new phone by my IT department!!!

I fail to see how BB10, nor any reworked QNX, nor any bb hardware can match the Note2.

I am a fed up 99% converted (non bb user), just waiting for IT permission...which is likely to be forthcoming due to the numerous US government agencies who are dropping BB, which will impact Canadian government decisions over bb in the end.

So in short....

anyone wanna buy a 16gb PB for $100? Either that or I give it to my new born to distract and trash when she grows into ther grabby phase. It it will keep the baby away from my wife's iPhone, my daughters Note 10.1 tablet, and my Note2!!!!

Any die hard BB takers left? I challenge ya!

:laughing3:

I like you and you make me laugh, I hope you stick around.

Why so bitter?

Why so bitter?

Why am I so bitter?

here is yet another reason....

PB calendar and email sync? 30 days!!!!! Client asks you a question where you need to reference an email older than 30 days? SOL!!! How can a "business tool" be so a$z backwards? I am bitter because the product is falsely advertised, is increasingly shameful, and I am having a lot of difficulty breaking free from RIM due to this false belief they are a better tool for business.

Oh and yes I have a "girl' name". ;) In this culture anyways.

Pony up $100 for a 16gb playbook and I'll love you. I'll even leave the apps installed to save you hours of wasted Android sideloading time!

if it took longer than 15 seconds to side load an app, you were doing it wrong.

Don't blame the hammer if the carpenter is really a plumber. knowwhatimeanmmmmmhmmm?

This is what I saw as the update:

This software release improves igloo strength by adding a base of hockey sticks to the exterior, as well as adding a heard of powerful, angry, yet playful beavers to protect the igloo. Get the Canadian only, igloo software update today at: www.blackberry.com/iglooPowerUp

:D

LOL, didn't even notice this.... nice to see RIM has a sense of humour.... see Description......

Yeeeeay my IT dept transferred my BES data plan to a PDA account and freed me from my BB into the bosom of my new Note2. 6 months ago they wouldn't allow any Android or Apple handsets or data plans due to our strict gov of Ontario client requirements.

Looks like RIM is losing yet more ground!

Glad to be free of the "crack"!

I'll be keeping the PB as a picture frame...still a decent price for a frame.

PS any bb10 hype now that we are a month way from launch? See you on the flop side!

Glad to hear that it all worked out for you.

All the best.

So, 110 bucks for 16GB, got me thinking that even if I start it only once and never again, it would be ok.

I like the UI from the get go, then I am thinking what could I use it for? ... OK, let's call my brother via Skype .... unexpected show stopper right there .... I ended up reading all the crap about how this Skype's (Microsoft's) fault or RIM's .... whatever, not interesting in blaming anyone, but the one big possible usage for this device is a no-go for me. No video chat with any non-BB users ... which most of use Skype. I cannot believe this!!!

Not a good start .... LOL

In a month or two (around the same time BB10 is released). FaceFlow (Skypes competitor) will be available on BB10.

They will have a proper app for BB10 in January, and us PlayBook owners will be getting FREE BB10 OS updates for our Playbooks to bring them up to date with the new BB10 phones.

www.faceflow.com

Edit : Apparently FaceFlow works with the current PB OS. Give it a try and let us know how you make out.

Cool, Blackberry up to date with the world as usual.

Why wouldn't the updates be free? Did they make people pay before?

Considering that the current BB7 phones will be obsolete and non upgradable with the BB10 OS, its nice to know that the PB will be easily upgadeable to the new OS for no charge. I believe other makers in the past have charged something for big OS updates?

Rumour has it a 10" Playbook will be released soon too.
