Riding during stay at home order.

"At the federal level, the wage premium for public sector workers was 7.8 percent for males and 16.0 percent for females compared to the private sector. At the provincial level, the public sector wage premium was negative 3.5 percent for males and positive 10.9 percent for females."

9.7% average if you read the study . Yes some jobs are more and some less .

December 2008 you had to dig hard for that one . LOL a whole 12 years later .

at this point you should be doing your own research so you stop digging this hole you are in

Don't forget that's just wages. Where government employees really pull ahead is total comp. Quote from your link.

"The available aggregated data on non-wage benefits nonetheless suggest—similarly to the wage comparison—that government workers fare better than those in the private sector. For example, 87.8 percent of government workers were covered by a registered pension plan compared to 23.9 percent of private sector workers (figure A). Of those covered by a registered pension plan, 94.2 percent of government workers enjoyed a defined benefit pension compared to just under half (47.5 percent) of private sector workers. In addition, government workers retire earlier than their private sector counterparts—about 2.4 years, on average (figure B)—and are less likely to lose their jobs (3.6 percent in the private sector versus 0.7 percent in the public sector) (figure C). Full-time government sector workers lost more work time in 2013 for personal reasons (12.1 days on average) than their private sector counterparts (8.1 days) (figure D)."

When you make statements you need to back them . Not tell people to look for your facts . I'm pretty sure things have changed in 12 years .

You are as old as you feel .

They've changed for sure. Every year public sector wages increase while private sector wages don't and private sector total comp retracts (over time private sector pensions are disappearing).

It's public service, there's no glory to be had by definition.

What you gain is typically a full pension and unequalled job security.

How many of them lost a pay cheque during the last year? Do you think they should have, since they were paid by people who lost theirs? How many businesses have to close or positions terminated before they start to lay off the public service?

I'm private, well paid for my position, no pension but i get my 2% a year. If i asked for a raise they would laugh at me, plenty of people in line ready to do my job for less.

There are many trade offs in life...
I chose a public sector career partly because of the security, but I went in knowing I'd never get rich.
I basically trade my work for a wage. It's a decent wage and the benefits are "okay", but from talking to my private sector friends my benefits are no big whoop when compared to them.
Also... People seem fixated on the money/benefits gov't employees get... In my case I also get to work shift work, weekends, holidays and be exposed to stressful situations and violence, so if anyone want's to switch with me for their cozy monday to friday 9-5 office gig... Message me ;-)
No, I've not missed a pay day since the plague, but then again I've had to work the whole time... Some people like to bash gov't employees, but there are some services that still need to be provided even in the midst of the apocalypse.
I don't understand the alternative where some folks think everyone should work for low wages and have no job security... Except them of course.

I have no problem with being paid to work. I have a big problem when for jobs that were unable to be done at times over the last year there was a huge difference in treatment if you were public sector.

I had teacher friends (getting paid full salary) posting pics of them on the golf course or in the pool during school hours while bitching about online learning ruining their lives. At best, most of them should have been at ~25% salary because that was the level of effort they were putting in. No repercussions for any of them. This year is different with better defined expectations that they have to meet. As an employer, I shouldn't have to explicitly tell you that if you are being paid, you should (*&^*&^*&^ show up to work. Do online courses, create work plans, do *&^*&^*&^ something useful, don't go golfing on my dime you pos.

Stress? Do tell.

I don’t ‘work’ weekends unless I feel like I’m behind and want to go home at a decent hour the upcoming week. But I get frequent calls from the GM/senior management about various issues. Spending Saturday night at the family dinner table answering questions to the guy who signs your paycheque is not fun.

Your job is your choice . Just like Hack . No one is forcing you to work for your boss . You can always get an easy government job .

I can guess your profession . If I'm right you have a thankless job and are underpaid .

Well... B'sides the 12 hour days/nights there's the frequent PTSD inducing incidents..
Y'know.. Suicides attempts, physical assaults, medical emergencies, over-doses, death threats...
Ever been bitten by a Hep-C or HIV positive crack whore...?
Then there's the strong likely hood you'll get suspended or fired over pretty much any incident where you use force to defend yourself or others.
Add to that the reams of paperwork involved and the Monday morning quarter backing done by people who have never actually done your job, but their book tells them how.

It's a wild ride and getting worse and worse as the years go by... Thank goodness I'm out shortly... Then I'll sit back and collect that huge public sector pension everyone seems to resent...
'Prolly buy a GS1250 with part of my severance...
