Day One of 2024...Robbie the RoboVac is busy cleaning under the bed while I lounge on bamboo sheets and a silk pillow case trying to stay cool.
Watching crazy girl in Cameroon
Still hot in Cairns but less humid ....no rain..hoping I might get a short bike ride tomorrow.
Adjusted my pseudoephrine intake to 60 mg twice daily and have more energy to counter the heat enervation.
It's still much nicer in the a/c room and I have the final Potter book to finish.
Coffee, lunch and Ozempic soon.
...
Partner did a superb job rearranging the middle bedroom ( cyclone room ) to accommodate her 18,000 pc jigsaw puzzle on the wall.
The finished puzzle measures 276 x 192cm when complete.105x192 inches.
28 on the deck tonight which is tolerable. Missed supper but over ate at Macas at noon. Skipped the onions, added lettuce and tomato and bacon ..it was ketchup short but I doubled pickles so stayed moist but Ozempic shut me down hard half way through.
Small fries and small diet coke $17 !!!! Least I'm getting extra meals from the over indulgence.

Ended up with half the burger left over and it provided protein with my can of baked beans tonight. ( I skipped supper - )
Enough left to cover tomorrow breakfast protein fix.
I was late riding over to physio so no brekkie and went riding up the Cook to where it was closed. Considered brunch at Palm Cove which was mostly untouched by the storm ...( big surprise that) and nearly all the many eateries were open.
It's a very upscale waterfront town....great oceanside paths and picnic facilities and a very competitive restaurant strip about 1 km long plus upscale apartments and hotels.
Palm Cove is a tiny enclave of fine dining, luxury resorts & spectacular pools beside a palm fringed beach & a great launch pad from which to explore TNQ.

It is very popular with locals and tourists ....Ellis Beach is nowhere near as upscale and it bore the brunt of the storm just a few KM north.
Currently not accessible from the south. I've eaten there many times as a nice break about 30km north of Cairns. Palm Cove is often too crowded and $$
Felt sorry for the owner of the main eatery at Ellis Beach who had just renovated and was wiped out.
Feel pretty upbeat after a long siesta / read so would like another ride tomorrow and maybe try the Gillies and Barrine Tea House tho might be pushing my luck energy wise.
My slow speed skills are very rusty in traffic....CB300F very forgiving.
Looks okay
and Barrine will be open. Need to get out early tho.
Switched to my old Joe Rocket mesh jacket and had to tighten the Rev'It riding pants as weight is down.....114kg from 132 6 months ago. Now I need some muscle.
We mostly eat fake meat for protein, BirdsEye has some very tasty veg based frozen chicken tenders as well as mince and meatballs. Lots of canned tuna and eggs as protein sources but I get a real urge for a good burger or even KFC tenders when on a deal. Maybe twice a month tho I do get a carnivore fix Thursdays at the Bowl's Club...roast and gravy, mashed and veg.
Lake Barrine has a "double fried" bacon n egg on a ciabatta that is well stacked with Australian style bacon.
Aussie bacon is typically this...
tho stripey bacon is available.
"Burgers" that are bacon and fried egg are common.
Pickled beet slices are waaaay too common and often mustard is MIA
Burgers can get a bit over the top
Got a decent ride in - weather is slightly cooler and down to 24 tonight.
Tea and scones used to be $8.50 to $10 .....now $13.50!!!...they were very good and filling plus decent sized teapot and large cups and tasty local tea.
Prices on the tour boat are crazy - used to be $10 with any meal....now $22
There are some neat critters in that lake.
Left a bit too early tho was nice sitting and reading. 20 minutes laterwould do the trick. Dawdled over Devonshire tea then rode home....home by 12. √
Epilogue
Big nap when I got back and was stiff as hell going out for food and sitting for 2 hours on marginal chairs.
Up watching a fishing series
enjoying this
and took a Robax - cured the aches pretty quick tho my neck is sore. Switched to the C3 helmet - might be the cause.
5 am need some sleep
Glad I'm not riding today ...aches n pains not so much as nasty heat and humidity.
33 feels like 36 and it does. Could not even make it to noon out on the deck.
Happy to read in the ac and could for sure use a nap.
Gorgeous day..spent the weekend as a night owl watching media when it was cooler.
Today tho will get out early and ride to Kuranda at least and possibly Skybury. It is just a lovely 27 right now at 7 am and low humidity. See how I go....
My potential riding areas are still crippled
Stunning day again - lower humidity tho is still warm. Did the Gillies both ways and felt much better on the bike. Two big cuppas and a high protein bacon n egg on ciabatta for brunch is still carrying me at supper.... Ozempic still working.
Got into a small rain shower on the bike....fell good tho glad was after the Gillies.
Deep into both Book of the Fallen first of ten fat novels and really enjoying 2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson on Audible. I'm in media heaven. Will tee up another 4k BluRay tonight
some welcome rain
just enough to ensure a muggy morning ..28 at 5 am with 80% humidity. Ugh
back to the air conditioning..
Considering a ride to Kuranda - have some German tucker.
Kuranda was put off a day but put the time to good use getting my "corner" sorted.
Tomorrow might be last day before rain.
Packed up the 14" MacBook Pro for return Was fun while it lasted but I do know now what my next Mac laptop will be IF I need one. Ventura seems useable for me but I will string out Mojave a bit further.
Completely rewired the screens and peripherals and gained much space and I can watch from the couch as well.
Bad sleep as renewed catheter being annoying...going for the fix in early March
glad I did not go to Kuranda
Try and get a catch up nap and stay cool in the a/c room
Found a screen repair for current laptop for $600 while I wait in Melbourne. Works out well as we are going to a David Attenborough exhibition Feb 2 - hotel is near the repair shop. BBC Earth Experience Happy with that
Finally out for a ride ....showers around but stayed dry getting to Kuranda for a German feed.
Bratwurst mit sauerkraut n potato salad and carmelized onions and hot mustard on the table and a slice of rye bread which I take home with me.
German eateries hard to find. Can tell the Ozempic is wearing off ( tomorrow for the shot ).....good apetite today
Likely will get wet ....don't care. Might wait til the rain front moves through....good book to read ...it's clipping along
