Race for Sight Charity Track day August 24th

Must admit. That is a cool picture. That one will get a frame.
Thanks for posting it.
If/when you obtain a watermark free version of that photo let me know and I'll hack you up a sweet avatar from it :) http://s10.postimg.org/69om64wlh/GPA_6671_XL.gif

Thanks, found lots of me in there. This ones my favorite, thats me in the middle:

Ha, I was just about to post that same picture to ask who you were. Your body position, to my eye, is perfect - exactly what I would like to achieve, you know, if I could lose 30 lbs and take some yoga lessons.

Seriously, looking great!

Thanks. I think body position helps but I don't think it's the most important thing for going fast. Some of the fastest guys in the country don't even hang off the bike, others are dragging elbow.

The funny thing is whenever I'm riding I feel like I'm not hanging off the bike enough lol

R4S event was a well put together event. I've been to quite a few track days, and this one was all-together one of the most fun TD events I've been to.

Lots of stuff going on between sessions, events for spectators and riders to participate in. I think the BackWoods Girls did a great job selling tons of tickets and were super cool.

Great way to support a cause. We could tell lots of work went into putting on this event. Hope to see a 2nd annual event next year.

#35 needs to take his training wheels off...

...jk mr Switch :p

Agreed! A fantastic event for sure. Big thanks to the R4S crew for putting on a good show!

3 cheers!

Special shout out to Karl (133) for schoolin me in the art of lines and potential around TMP and his crew for lending me a starter to boost my bike!, Paul (952) for making some sweet sweet GoPro chase footage action (still editing, will post soon), the big dude on the Green ZX10R for helping me push some serious boundaries (got my lap record time following him. He had no idea I was trying to hang on), Andrew L for a great battle, and the great turn out of kind friendly folk!

I still haven't put together the video with all the passes and such...working on it. But here are my last three laps of the day, which are the best I have done at TMP so far. Two mid 1:23s (each with a tiny bit of traffic), and then a 1:23.0. I guess a 1:22.x would have been in the cards with a bit more time.

Great line through 2 and 3 and you carry a ton of speed through 6 (sharp left). Nice work.

Great riding, YellowDuck! I noticed you take sequence of turns 4 (left) and 5 (right) differently than I do. After 4, you end up very close to the apex of 5 before flipping it for 5, essentially cutting the distance shorter than me---I take turn 4 sharp left and then I have bigger arc for 5, which makes me exit at full power and almost hitting the exit turtle of 5. I really don't know which way is better, I'll certainly try your way and see if it works better. But yeah---that's some really good riding there, bravo!

You definitely don't want to emulate my lines through that section. I feel like I have 2/3 more or less figured out now, but 4 is a bit of a throw-away corner for me currently. I just can't seem to get the bike to turn in there on a wider line, which is why I started turning in so early. It is a compromise line, but I found that that was the only way I could carry any speed into 5 at all. One of my goals for the day was to get on the throttle sooner coming out of 5, and I think I accomplished that.

Here is edited footage of sessions 4, 5 and 6, Intermediate group. I basically took out all the parts with clear track, and just stitched together the bits where I was following someone, passing someone, or getting passed.

My favorite section is the rearward-facing footage beginning around 11:30, where Mr. 487 reels me in and eats my lunch.

Edit: I had nothing for the guy in the white leathers on the 675. I like to pass into 1 but he was good on the brakes there, and he walked away from me on every straight. In the morning sessions I spent most of my time looking at his rear tire. I think I might have passed him one time in the afternoon, but I'm not sure. Anyway, all the jostling in traffic was a lot of fun!

I was following my friend getting some video for him I should have a clip of you. We were the 2nd guys you came up to in 4th session.

He did awesome for his 2nd (dry) track day and first at TMP. By end of day, he was able to do 1:24 - 1:26 in traffic, with a best of 1:23. Took me a lot longer than that to get to that point :-|

I'd like to try putting on DOT's or slicks. The street tires arent so confidence inspring when you go hot into 1 and slide both wheels. Little pucker there!

Uh, yeah, I'd say that was pretty good! It has taken me three years to get down to a 1:23!

Looking good! My non-expert input for you to pick up easy time is through 4-5 stay tight on 4 and flop over quickly for 5 and get on the gas to stand it up. I believe the ideal line is to come off of 5 and be almost touching the left side turtle....again don't quote me on that.

After the carousel get hard on the power out of the turn and don't fully roll off the throttle for the left hander. Chop it slightly and carry more speed through the left, you will probably pick up a bunch of time once you do that.

Thanks for the advice - all noted! I sensed that I was rolling off too early / too much for 10 - I seem to be kind of coasting into the entry of 11. I'll try to carry more speed through 10 as you suggest.

Great vids guys. Had a blast watching you guys and trying some new things out. I had the yellow and black gixxer. I was in int. group. I have about 4500km of riding experience and 2 track days. I know it's no where near as good as you vets, but I was running 1:26 during the last half of the day.
Great learning experience and wild watching some of you guys out their.
