We made the decision to have kids because it was what we wanted, but by the time we got everything ready to have a new baby at home there wasnt any money floating around for extra gifts. Crib, playpen, high chair, some stimulating toys (replaced by leaving the tupperware in a box on the floor, who knew?) and car seats, and a stroller and bicycle seats and the spare cash was gone.

yes it is an excuse, my neighbor bought his wife a very nice diamond for each of the three kids she delivered. I couldn't see my way clear to do it.

My dream was for both kids to be paid through school and graduate with 0 student debt, we helped pay for a nice wedding for the daughter, financed cars for both and paid into relocation expenses when they got real jobs away from home. Some families have different priorities. Gotta pick your fights.
 
Glad to hear your family bounced back after the crib and playpen etc. expenditures. Everybody loves a comeback.

I had an awesome childhood but I don't like children. At all. I didn't even like being a kid, believe it or not. I dealt with it early in life so there would be no chance.

Lots of people don't want to have kids but then do. It's not uncommon and they are loved regardless.

Plus aren't all baby shower gifts technically push presents?

Dumbest point. Proof that FOR SOME when they have a kid their brain comes out their dick or twat at the same time. Kids for the most part are annoying, disgusting, disruptive and are generally only endearing to their own parents who can't see the reality or they would probably drown them. Of course there are exceptions.
Many times they grow into the same type of annoying gross adults.
And if my parents didn't want to have kids I wouldn't know it so that argument is even more idiotic. Enjoy your kids just keep them away from me thanks

And nothing wrong with giving your baby mama a push present for doing what they did, pregnancy for over 9 months, body going through extreme changes and labor, extreme pain that men will never have to go through. Doesn't have to be something expensive, just something meaningful and affordable for the individual

So true...makes me sick too when we have a global society so over populated that food resources are scarce in so many places in the world, where the burden on dwindling resources is a major cause of strife today, that people take the purely voluntary and selfish decision to add to that burden.

The argument goes both ways, I don't necessarily subscribe to the view above but I can state categorically that I don't like or want children without feeling guilty about it. I'll go so far as to say that they irritate me and should be banned from red eye flights ;)

White people are bringing on their own extinction, lol. Most people who don't want kids are white
 
i asked my wife about this, she looked at me with a wtf face. we have a 2yo, and will be having more.

my wife said getting up to do night feedings (if not breast feeding), making the house clean, laundry, cooking etc. was more valuable than any diamond or other gift.

When I was a kid I thought most adults were @$$hole$. I didn't realize until I got older that, in fact, I was the @$$hole.

I hate teenagers. I was one and know the **** they can do, plus I have a couple. But in the end, I do the best I can for my kids...at least half if not more of my decisions revolve around them.

So?

By the time white people are extinct, I'll be long long dead and therefore won't know or care about much at all. Anyway, even if I did have kids with my wife, I wouldn't be helping the white race much as my wife is Chinese -- the future will be many mixed kids which, like mutts compared to pure-breds, will mean a healthier population with more genetic diversity.

I can't say I hate kids (as individuals) but I certainly hate being around kids. I grew up as the youngest of a large family, so I was never around kids. I'm not cut out for it -- especially infants with their crying, puking, ********, getting into everything, waking me up non-stop -- and yes, I know from experience -- I have a 17 year old daughter, whom I love, but I certainly did not enjoy the infant years.

That's just it. Kids are not a death sentence, you can still have all the things you mentioned. Our society is a very funny thing. People seem to hate the two ends of life, kids and the elderly. When we are young we like to forget that if we are lucky we will live to grow old...and when you are old ain't nobody cares about you. The bonds and family you create when you are young will either make or break you when you are old and grey. I've had the unfortunate pleasure of watching people die in front of me. Shirts ripped open on the floor while we do hopeless CPR until the medics can arrive. Everyone gawks, and carries on disposable income, holidays, free time, peace and quiet mean nothing in the end...like my mama always said "I'll sleep when I'm dead."

Just saying...

As a biologist I have never heard of a species that "knowingly" bring about their own extinction. It certainly goes against everything I've learnt & experienced. I know lots of species that will die for mating rights to propagate their offspring. Like the male black widow spider. Even our close relatives, the apes would fight to be alpha male just so he can mate with all the beeches
