pulled in at the Niagara border

So you met a customs agent that rides with no pants on? Must be cold on his junk.

Friend of mine had a car seized at the border once. It was registered to her but she had moved back to Canada so her father (who still lived in the US was using it). She had flown down to visit him and then they were driving back together. Like I said, he uses it but since it's a 10 hr drive by the time they got to the border she was driving. They told her she was trying to illegally import the vehicle (since her address was now in Canada) and wouldn't let her enter the country with it. She had to call her mother in Ajax, wait 3 hours for her to get there, to get a ride home. They also had to pay the customs people for parking it there for 3 days until her father returned to pick it up.

Made no sense to me since even if you were going to import it, getting it here isn't the problem. You still need to go through the proper process to get insurance, plates, registration, etc.

Most people I know that travel to the US often say they never have any problem with the US guards. It's the Canadian ones that are ********.

A buddy and I were driving to Indianapolis this summer for MotoGP. I brought Magnum and was towing 2 bikes with it. Everything was going ok at Detroit border until he asked whose car? Car is not under my name (under my father, cheaper insurance). I had all the papers (ownership, insurance slip ect). Got hold up for 2 hours, car completely searched. Found my supplements (vitamins) in my bag in the little Monday-Sunday tray. Gave me hassle for that as well (pretty much yelling at me) saying that it's probably drugs and are gonna be thrown away or they wouldn't let me into USA. From what I gathered all pills have to cross border check point in its origional casing.
Anyways time well wasted and they never threw away my vitamins.
Now I'm worried that next time I cross border they are gonna hold me again for no reason.

So was it actually his car or just insurance fraud? Lol

You got a lesson in authority. That comment likely got you nicked.

You might be right, but I definitely think that his comment did not matter. I am very respectful when I deal with customs and borders agents, and got nailed in a very unfair way, very similar to the OP, by a female agent at the same crossing (Rainbow bridge). Coincidence?

In the spring, I got a mounting bracket for a SHAD top case. My total cost was two separate amounts: I paid for the item, and had to pay for the shipping (from Florida to Niagara).

When I declared the purchase, the lady agent told me I have to pay taxes on the total amount. I told her that I am importing a motorcycle part to Canada, and I would be happy to pay taxes on the item, but the shipping was a service, and was not something that I am importing as such (shipping is not part of the item, but only a service UPS rendered).

To make a longer story short, I had to paid import taxes on the item AND the shipping (shipping within the USA) ????

^Same here when I imported some used seats for my car. Charged me "duty" on the shipping costs Ohio to Buffalo. Lesson learned, have shipping invoiced separately. Not a lot of tax, but it is still BS.

^ You can contest those fees same as if you get a parcel delivered in Canada and you think the fees are excessive or incorrect. Yes it's a hassle but you just send a form off.

What is preventing someone from just driving off when they're given the yellow ticket at the CBSA booth? As far as I know, no personal ID is attached to the ticket

The fact your vehicle is flagged by the border agent, as soon as you get that secondary search ticket.

Enjoy your rectal exam each and every time you cross too.

crossing back at Queenston a few years ago, customs guy sends the car in ahead of us, there is some distance to the building at this crossing. I think the car may have had people that were not to fluent in english? He watched it go in and was on the radio telling them to expect a possible skip as we were pulling up.

They are watching you

Yup - I worked traffic at the Peace Bridge - not a smart thing to try to blow the bridge.

You can be pulled over at random ( I was in Gananoque ) purely as a check - the agent is not doing it - the computer is.

It's thorough, you are not there when they examine your vehicle ( Burgman in my case ) and you are grilled inside the immigration area where you wait.
It's nothing personal as to selection.
Fortunately was not buddy that was pulled over...he'd still be repacking. ;)

So a pull over does not mean additional hassles.
Getting caught with undeclared goods will tho.

You would think if she supposedly rides that she'd know even if it's nice at mid day or afternoon that morning and nights aren't. Maybe she assumed you rode in shorts and a t shirt? Sounds like a typical god complex.
She could be a fair weather rider like most gtam

How many people do you know that only ride the 2 really hot months of the year, I know plenty

You paid for the items in Canada, just mail the receipts to get the duty back.

You want to live in a country with the 4-2nd standard of living in the world, you have to pay taxes. If you don't like this, you can move to the US and the 57th ranked standard of living, and live in awesome towns like Buffalo and Detroit.

Even if you don't like paying duties, just stay in the States 48 hours and you get $800 exempted.

Every Canadian should live in the US for a few years to learn about the myths of that country and appreciate what we have up here.

Are you for real????? We pay Champagne taxes and get beer services. Billions of $ go to Africa in foreign aid. Billions of $ go to immigration services!!!! Billions of $ go to out of date drug enforcement laws. Billions of $ go to outdated Indian affairs issues. This country is spiralling. out of control.

I was once searched & my car turned inside out when they found a kitchen knife in my car.

I'm surprised I didn't get a free prostate exam

Sent from my tablet using my paws

So the border agent was a rider and said "i'm not wearing pants yet" ?

If she was just wearing chaps, wouldn't her coochie flap in the breeze and make a horrible sound?

I'm dyin' laughing at this one.

Hell, my wife's dyin' laughing at this one too.

:lmao:

It'd be nice if they were forced to serve tours across seas. Also, wouldn't mind the government funding special ops teams to be dropped off in other countries to annihilate these ******* scammers who keep calling my house pretending to be Microsoft affiliates.

I've never been asked or volunteered to show my paid yellow slip to a secondary officer.

I am given the slip to go and pay, i park my car, get out, lock it and walk in...I pay my taxes/duties, walk to my car, get in and drive away.

At no point am i told that i have to present the paid slip to a secondary inspection and most certainly will not stick around to let them get curious.

Once i pulled up and an officer approached me and asked me to pop the trunk. I showed him the slip and said i'm going in to pay and walked away.

I'm surprised they were not waiting for you to come out with the receipt then ask you to pop the trunk before you left. That way if you had any additional non-declared goods they could make your day very unpleasant.

In all the times we have crossed I have only once had a request to inspect the trunk after showing the receipt for the duties paid. Always best to be completely honest and pay all duties that you owe.

Crossing into the US out West coming home from Saskatoon drossing to North Dakota a few years ago the US border guy showed some "human"ness. He questioned us on the trip , where we planned to re-enter Canada, etc.
He then proceeded to ask our son on what his job was, how much of the driving he expected top be doing (he was maybe 10-11 at the time.

Then asked us to pull forward he needed to inspect the trunk/hatch. When he opened it he exclaimed "OH MY GOD THERE IS A DEAD BODY IN HERE !!!!" Smiled, laughed, and wished us a good trip.

Every once in a while you can find a border person that still has a sense of humour. Definitely the the most fun/unique experiences I have had at any crossing
