pulled in at the Niagara border

allways complain when you have been wronged,as mentioned you may be flagged as a tax cheat in the future.

yes i have the receipts...do i bother for $27..probably not.

Hell yeah you bother because if you don't then you will have problems every time you cross back from the States! You have been flagged and if you don't act quickly to prove them wrong I would not be surprised if it remains on file for quite some time.

This is what ticks me off about Customs Agents and coming back to Canada, you are guilty until proven innocent, which should not be the case. They do not have to prove anything; all they need to say is the goods look new and then it is up to you to prove them wrong. I would be collecting all my receipts and sending them in as soon as possible. I would also register a complaint that the Customs Agent treated you unfairly and made you feel like a criminal when you were being completely honest, declared the goods you were importing, and paid the duties owed on the item.

yes i have the receipts...do i bother for $27..probably not. Just trying to warn riders when going over. I always have 2 pairs of gloves and sometimes carrry running shoes to walk around in. IF i had my shoes for sure would be nailed for boots too.
good thing my underwear are OVIOUSLY old

then you are letting them do it to you again
send in the receipt but also send in your fee of $100 for harassment and detaining you .
Seriously send them a real receipt with 30 days to pay.
See if they fall for it and if they don't, submit that to whatever Ministry.:D

Maybe I'm just slow, but I really don't see the problem in this. How many people do you know that buy stuff across the border and wear them back or claim that they're used?

It's not an unreasonable assumption that the items in question could very well be brand new and purchased during your time across the border.

PS, it's the job of the customs guy to ask you stupid questions to see what your response is and how you react. Why do you think they ask what your citizenship is while holding your passport?

its just a craps shoot everytime going across. I picked up some bathroom vanities $1500 and they were more concerned about beer and smokes. Let me thru. I couldnt believe it.
put reciepts in they will refund....complain all you want but the complaint deptartment is right beside the garbage bin...

A lot of truth but all this over a pair of pants and gloves that the guy is actually using on his bike? Is it really all that suspicious to wear newer looking gear? Half the people I see riding look as if they just left the store and if that idiot chick rides, she knows it. It's not like OP had 3 gold chains around his neck and a Gucci jacket with tags still on it. These seemingly silly questions are designed to prevent heavy smuggling and illegal activities. Is it worth it to harass honest people while letting through millions of dollars in drugs and guns? Focus when focus is needed. Bugging someone over petty crap is not what customs agents are for.

Not always true. They may be looking to demote or move someone and evidence like that helps out in building a valid case.

I'm no expert, but could this affect your "border record" if there is such a thing? If you don't rectify the issue now, you might have issues every time you come back.

LOL btw I had an agent claim my Mastercraft socket set that sits in my trunk was purchased in the US. I laughed, and I asked for a Canadian supervisor. Don't think she got the joke...

Sent from the future using my GOLDEN iPhone 30 SS

Send in your receipt and get your refund.

Do you really think that the government will put it to better use than you will?

If you want to have some real fun next time, tell them you're checking out the job scene when you're going into the U.S.

I cross the border a lot as I sometimes go grocery shopping in the US along with the odd vacation and picking up packages. I've read enough about what the customs people can do to know that if I take something new looking in with me on the way there I'll carry the receipt with me too. It's not a big deal...I've never been asked to show receipts for my own gear but I'll have it on hand if they do. Only time I had a problem was when I went to pick up a used bike part I bought from Ebay and forgot the paperwork. Went into the customs building and I showed them the transaction on my phone and that was all good. Guy there did mention to me that they were under no obligation to accept phone evidence though, I did ask him specifically about this. As far as my experience goes if you are polite and honest you usually have no problems. Compare that to the US where one officious ***** spouted a standard line loudly about "Sir, I am denying this form" crap as I put something on the wrong line on a form in front of her....I asked her if she couldn't have just pointed it out as I was filling the form in since she was watching.

Lesson learned, do not go through a gate operated by a female guard. Hate to gender stereotype but I find sometimes women in authority abuse their powers, an overcompensation thing. She was even a motorcyclist to add insult to injury.

Canada Customs (CBSA) does keep its own database separate from Criminal record CPIC and US systems (which they also have access to) . Taxes, fines, smuggling etc are on this and flagged instantly when they scan your passport, and they scan them all these days. If you get a fine for smuggling etc you are in this system and flagged for years. It takes a separate process to run criminal record and they don't have time to do that to everyone. That's why the guy with the 1988 conviction still went to the US for years until one day someone ran him and banned him.

it's not about the $27.. They would have a record saying you hide goods.
Do you want them to search you everytime when you cross the border?

BTW, what did she think you rode there wearing?

You would think if she supposedly rides that she'd know even if it's nice at mid day or afternoon that morning and nights aren't. Maybe she assumed you rode in shorts and a t shirt? Sounds like a typical god complex.

receipts and form is in the mail.....will update, but I am leaning toward a return letter stating "insufficient information" but I have faith that justice will be served

So the border agent was a rider and said "i'm not wearing pants yet" ?

If she was just wearing chaps, wouldn't her coochie flap in the breeze and make a horrible sound?

Good for you bud!
Where to look for these addresses to send in paper work?

I just saved over $500 on new OEM Volvo parts for wife's car by buying in the states. My friend from church was on a 3 week training course in Delaware, so I ordered the stuff and sent it to his hotel. He brought it back, declared all of it, and paid zero to bring it across. This was only possible becasue of the length of his trip, but it sure helped me alot.
