Provincial politics

People; this isn't about union 'vote buying' or public workers coming out en masse, to somehow foil democracy. It's not about some basic failing of democracy because of some nebulous 'corruption.' If that was the case, if it EVER was the case, then we would have been right back where we were prior to the election. What this was, was a resounding refusal of Ontario to buy into the American style neo-conservative agenda. The election was Hudak's to lose and that's exactly what he did. If he had stuck to the traditional Progressive Conservative centre-right ideals he would have walked away with this election. Instead he talked about a slash and burn style of government, that simply isn't palatable to the majority of people in this Province.

In fact it's not palatable to people like me, who are centre-right by nature, and would be the natural supporters of the Progressive Conservative Party. Hard core conservative friends have been asking me about the mechanics of declining their ballots because while they could not support the Liberals and would never think of voting NDP, they simply could not buy into Hudak's politics. I voted for Harris and I couldn't vote for Hudak.

So please just get over it. The PC Party of Ontario did this to themselves. They made themselves irrelevant by acting like petulant children and refusing to work with a minority government, when they could have negotiated to have some of their views heard. They failed to garner support for a style of government that might have traction in the United States, but We. Are. Canadian. They failed at the basic concept of presenting a reasonable alternative to a government that is currently under criminal investigation.

Choose your champions wisely.
Very Well Said, hate to admit it! :)

I'm center-right but I couldn't support the PC Party of Ontario. Give me a reasonable tory alternative that I could support I would have voted for them. But I couldn't support the tea party lite/shades of reform that the PC's have turned into.

I'm the exact same.

And well summarized Rob.

For years I've been seeing first and second-hand how poorly managed and horribly wasteful the public sector is in this province, so I'm not ashamed to say I was excited to hear about job cuts there. Unfortunately with a million workers in that sector, there's no way you're winning an election with such a platform. It's too "evil".

First and third line could take a niiiice pruning. I'd do the firings myself, free of charge!

I totally disagree. Rob, why did you give Liberals the benefit of doubt? Why must there be a better alternative to them? As a matter of fact, any alternative is a better alternative. People just don't know what they want and get confused by all the empty promises.

... and the NDP were going to raise taxes.
... and the PCs were going to make it possible for an employer to fire you, without cause, and put 100K people out of work.
We were given the South Park mascot choice, this time around. No one was stupid, except maybe the politicians.

oh the cuts are coming...

"Next year, the province’s net debt is forecast to jump by 7.7%, faster than the 4% economic growth rate anticipated during the same time. Still, while Ontario may be carrying more debt than California,"

...LET THAT SINK IN....

Wow ... I didn't expect that that's for sure.

Select a not very electable guy as the boss and put a platform in front of Ontarians which didn't offer anything past the firing and flawed job growth math and you end up a sore loser.

Job badly done, fire the squad of strategists and economists and start again and hope you can fair better the next time around in four years.

This is why I think Hudak and his people are twats. They could have talked about a new public sector culture and a gentle massage but no they had to go full jugular on firings. And the million jobs plan complete with stepping down if not achieved is just stupid BS, who can believe it? And to top it all off, per my colour TV, Mrs. Hudak wore a reddish orange dress to the give up speech. Are these people retarded? Politics is hopeless. Work around the system, take care of yourself, f everybody.

I didn't.

They underestimate the bleeding-hearts, and they assumed people would still go for that 'Rob Ford' mentality of no non-sense bs. They also forget that voters don't even remember what happened yesterday, let alone last year. Apparently nobody gives a **** how many billions the Liberals squandered away.

He should've lied through his teeth just like everybody else.

I woke up to shock and awe, our LOOONG term blue leader was unseated by someone with next to zero experience. Because she just showed up and smiled. Like Hudak should have done. Gun, foot, Hudak.

The next four years will be something to watch, unless your a Conservative, then you'll have to buy the Parliament channel because your not getting a seat at the big kids table.

Politics, man. It's brutal.

Ontario is buried in debt, and the only guy who actually laid out a plan to claw our way out of the hole suffered an embarrassing defeat to people who skirted the issue almost entirely.

Hudak had some good ideas but made them look like B.S. Usually politicians take ideas that are BS and try to make them look good. Even veteran politician Holyday couldn't explain the concepts to his flock.

I didn't see any Green party wins but they got over 200,000 votes. In a couple of ridings they had enough vote that if added to the number 2 guy, could have taken a seat. No imminent threat but one to watch for down the road.

I thought he smiled more than anyone else I have ever seen in any election, even during his resignation speech ...
