Riding JST Racing's GSX-R 1000 at the National R1

The bike is faster than its setup... convinced me that Bazzaz quickshifters are garbage.

His helmet? They make GoPros that small?

Never had a single issue with mine on the GSXR1000, works best out of the Annitori I had on my zx6r and the HM we have on the R1.

I know of 5 Bazzaz quickshifters that failed. Just in our camp, we had one pull the threads right out (3/4" of aluminum threads just pulled right out) which may have been crash-related, probably was... we had one that would stop working randomly, and one that would randomly send a cut signal to the ecu - which is the one that messed up my SBK race as well as part of my 600 race, as we had it on that bike and swapped it, thinking that the cut-out issue was ECU related or a ground problem. Multiple other people had QS issues on the weekend, two of them I know for a fact were Bazzaz.

So my first time using their product was definitely not a 'will buy again' experience.

You seem to have a lot of technical issues - maybe sell one of your many bikes and use the money to have a professional look at your race bikes. It seems like every time you lose we get to read a wall of the reasons and issues why x happened.

Say what? It was my first time riding Taverner's 1000 at speed and my first time riding the 600 after the crash I had, which makes everything an unknown. Last year, my old 600 was literally worn out, ~130# compression in most of the cylinders. I was aware of it and decided to ride it anyway - the issues I had were very real with that bike, and fixing the problems between rounds wasn't in the cards with what needed to be done (obviously I checked valve clearances). I am far from the only amateur racer with bike issues, more than one amateur motor ended up in shreds last weekend at the National, should they be criticised because their bikes unexpectedly died when they did regular maintenance? Or is that part of racing? Should we look down our nose at them? Or should we applaud that they did what they could do, even when they knew they had a disadvantage?

You think I didn't have a professional look at my bike? I had multiple professionals look at the bikes. Paid the money, still had failures. Multiple people in the pits had Bazzaz failures. Ask Phil Leckie, his Bazzaz QS failed on the weekend too. He's Pro. You bring a spare, it fails. You've got a 200hp bike that randomly fails to shift, what now? You disable the QS but you have to leave the strain gauge in place because the rods require it, and the engine cuts out randomly. What now?

I'm supposed to say, what? "Everything was awesome but I just didn't have pace", when the bike didn't even want to start? I raced anyway! I didn't sit in the @#$% pits and cry, I got on the bike and I did what I could do. The bike failed me, no surprise but I did it anyway. Not good enough for you? Maybe you're right, maybe I just suck at racing and should give it up. Why even try? Why not just come on GTAM and criticise people for not winning?

Man, I thought you raced. No amateur racer, especially in Canada, is any stranger to adversity. Very damned few of us can really afford what we're doing, much less to do everything boutique and fancy. Must be nice to live in a world where all your equipment works exactly like it should, all the time. Sure would hate it if you came out to race and your bike broke, and somebody tried to make you feel worthless about it.

For some racers, the struggle is REAL!

I can totally agree there. I went from a bike that could do no wrong last year to a bike that doesn't get along with me this year. On the bazzaz end of things I will never touch it again. Complete waste of money. Quick shift over heats on my 1098 then bike starts cutting in and out of power. Really fun in the corners.
