Plate obstruction -- ********* ticket

The public outcry about some police agency policy tying advancement to street checks has resulted in uniform cops going back to the tried and true method of advancement by issuing as many coupons per shift as they can possibly give.:p

Regardless I think it's a stupid ticket to hand out. With a dealer installed plate the appropriate thing to do is to inform the driver that they should remove it.

I agree the kid should probably have been told to remove. That said, and seeing as cops beating on people is frowned upon these days, that kind of ticket for a dealer frame would usually be reserved as a bonus ticket for attitude adjustment.

Though the kid claimed to his parent that he was polite, who knows? The ticket was for 15 over, but who knows if that was a reduced amount? Again, who really knows what happened at the time other than the kid?

Remove the bloody frame and take a pic and go to court and talk to the JP and see about having it dismissed.

Of all the things we ***** about with policing, this just makes law enforcement look bad.

Personally, I've always hated dealerships that put those things on. They don't pay me to advertise their business. And frankly, I prefer to remain "anonymous" in my travels.

Hate hearing about these stupid tickets.

I've had clear plate covers since the day I got my personalized plates. Thankfully no tickets yet.

…but I would still take these plate ads (without the ticketof course) over back when they used to put those foil stickers or metal dealer badges directly glued to your trunk

Agreed. Those stupid things drove me insane.

I have told dealer's not to bother putting them on and being ignored.

I just take them off and then return to the dealership and leave them.

Didn't appreciate the LINE-X sticker on my back window. I hated stickers on vehicles but that has abated once I understood why people put them on.

In the 60s and 70s, those dealer things were made of chromed cast white metal, mounted through drilled holes into the bodywork.

Try getting thru the concourse d'elegance without those now.

Doing some reading on this, I know the covers/trim plates, that cover some of the plate could be construed as illegal at cops discrestion, IMHO dicretion was poor here, I have already voiced this, and will get off my soapbos. The clear covers that protect the plate are also illegal , because they can get dirty, skew the sightlines etc, again at the discretion of the officer.

If you don't put a cover on and your plate peels ,apparently ~ 28000 annually, I may cost you $29 to replace (for a defective pate the province sold you) or you could also receive the $110 obstructed plate fine....

Kind of feels like a pretty good ***** farking to me..

Lately I have seen a lot of plates with peeling or bubbling paint.

I've been using plate covers for years and I've never had an issue.... Knock on wood.

To Serve and Protect eh? From what?! What a joke. Yup, take that one to court for sure! (Not before having a beer with your kid and getting the full, honest story. ie. 40 over knocked down to 15? Attitude with the officer? Etc.)
Hey man, he's 16 and under the age to drink. You're gonna get the man's child taken away from him by protective services.

First the plate and now a single beer? My virgin eyes can't take this!!!

when i was young driver, i got a lot of stupid tickets like this. Plate obstruction, one licence plate light out, other dumb ones.

I'm 30 years old now, and i don't care for police officers at all, which is unfortunate.

I'm 32 and I'm in the same boat. I was never a very fast driver and never did anything particularly stupid on the road. I got a few speeding tickets I deserved and a few I didn't. I also got a few stupid tickets from cops just being jerks.

You can get free replacement plates within 5 years of issue if the numbers become illegible due to defective manufacture or materials.

Does that apply to personalized plates as well?
