Pickup Trucks

She liked it in photos….i prefer one up close.

Plus we were coming back from the hell that is called Costco on a Saturday morning.

Did you know Instacart contractors can bypass the line at Costco? Cause I didn’t and got mighty upset when a lady blew by 50 people waiting in line when I was next in line to cash out.
Didn't know that.

The Etobicoke location always has this "shop for me" agents in there.

They have like 20 carts.
2-3 vans always parked out front.

I think they open up an unused register just for them.

Went by the Ford dealer to show the Maverick to my wife…before I even stopped she said ‚I really hope you’re not considering THAT thing’

Yes…yes I was. Until that moment.

I told her I need the bed for the one time per year I carry dort to do her garden, and the one time in 10 years I’ll need to bring a new washer and dryer home…she laughed and she laughed…and then laughed some more.

I didn’t bother going inside.
Smart Wife!

Time for the Honda!

Sorry but I agree with her and think the Mav is ugly. If you don’t need a full-size truck I’d 100% go Ridgeline.

Maybe wait to see the Toyota Stout for the 2025 model year.
Won’t bother. The pricing of these will be stupidly high, same as anything new nowadays.

The Maverick hit that sweet spot in terms of affordability, mileage, and usability in my eyes.

Obviously opinions differ.

And with a Maverick you’ll need two trips to move a washer & dryer .

I figure just leave the gate down and it’ll do!?

Son of a … you’re all killing this for me.

From the little I read this is supposed to be competition for the Maverick.
Personally I would love to see some more "basic" hybrid compact pickups hit our market.
So many huge trucks driving around with an empty (never used) bed and a single person driving.

I read that motor vehicle deaths are dropping around the world for the most part with the exception of North America. Large trucks and SUVs are the reason we're bucking the trend.

Many people think they are safer because they are big. In too many cases crash test results prove this wrong. You just bring more "energy" to the collision and if they don't crumple gets poorly attenuated.

I always remember a friend's wife with a Montana minivan, she was "lecturing" about safety.... This was the one where IIHS said there was little survivable space inside the vehicle at 40 mph! But it can't be true because it is big.

You bring more energy to the crash but assuming you hit another vehicle, you also lower the number of g's the big vehicle experiences. If an f-150 hits a yaris, the yaris gets almost double the g's. Then it's up to crumple zones to try to tone that down. If you hit a bridge, obviously the weight of your vehicle is almost immaterial and it comes down to distance available to crumple (if you can spin the truck and hit the bridge backwards, I suspect your odds are far better although that would be an almost impossible maneuver).

That thing should be called the Snout. What a fugly looking front end. It would be great if blind people needed trucks.
If priced right, looks are less important.. But we'll see.

It all comes down to price. The basic Maverick XL is the cheapest truck that Ford currently builds.
Compared to the Hyundai or the Honda it's a smoking deal - especially, as you say when they drive around empty 90% of the time.

I looked at the basic XL as we had discussed earlier. There's unfortunately a few items that I'd like to be included which brings me to the XLT with Luxury Package (or whatever it's called).

So that cost just keeps going up and up and up.

Some items I'd really like (not need): remote / keyless start, heated seats and steering wheel, spray in bed liner, tow package (2k for hybrid, 4k for AWD), and those things require the price to jump unfortunately.

Regardless, Maverick is still on the list...just getting lower on it, but I haven't crossed it off yet. A test drive may kill it off completely, or bring it up to the front.

This might interest you. I didn't end up buying here but I did chat with them a bit about F150's when I was looking.
