Peacefully Protest at Police Stations/Queens Park Against Bike Thefts?

Bike get's stolen, insurance co gives you money back.

Is there a problem? Am i missing something?

It's just two wheels, go out and buy another one.

Think bike theft is bad here, go over to England it's really bad there.

lol

have you ever been in a hit in run before?
how about rape?
how about i come over there and murder your wife then insurance gives you money and a new wife to boot. an ex pr0n star!

you know what the problem w/ the argument you're making? you don't account for two things

#1. Time
#2. Stress

There difference between a child, girl friend, car, house and bike are there monetary values, their sentimental and moral values are decided by society and the individual. How about we just prevent something if we can? I'm not saying protesting is the right way to go about it though....

Umm, i don't even know how to respond to your dribble. Lets compare rape to a bike theft wow.

I'll bow out now.

Does anyone actually believe that there is some sort of police conspiracy not to investigate motorcycle theft in particular?

I'm pretty sure anyone who's had tools stolen, or their home vandalised, or got beat up outside a bar, has the same sense that the police are not doing enough to help them.

The fact is that policing is a job like any other - most people who are doing it are not particularly good at it, and are more likely to be concerned with what they're doing on the weekend than in what they are getting paid to do.

Sure it sucks to be the victem of a crime, but if the worst that's happened is that you get your toy taken away (and particularly if you're getting an insurance cheque for it), you really need to take a step back and realise that life's not so bad. If you're not mindful, the things you own will end up owning you. Save your rage and retribution for when somone takes something that matters.

I like old cheap bikes, because I don't have to worry about any of this. I parked my 2000 shadow in my driveway for years witout even using the steering lock.

I prefer my tax dollars go toward the Police looking for missing kids instead of missing bikes.

lol tax dollars...all the cops do these days is sit and catch speeders...they are a revenue generation arm only.
and its not the cops fault...its the gummimint.

they wont bother to do anything, the odd year we get luck and they make a big bust or do a raid and find bikes...theft goes down for a bit, then guess what!? that lucrative bike theft business gets picked up by the next crew....it cant be stopped. Just like car thefts and burglary cant be stopped

Give your head a shake .......... WTF is wrong with people.....

Come on dude!! Do you really think they cannot do both?

Overall, crime rate in Canada is at its lowest level since 1972 (Statistics Canada reported on July 2012)

Honestly, with violent crime decreasing steadily, police should start looking into this... asap

The comparisons are a bit over the top but yes there is stress, messed up plans, sense of injustice etc. Those are all part of life. They hurt more if you think they won't ever happen to you.

Unless you are good at insurance fraud you don't win when someone steals your bike but have a back up plan and insurance and you get over it.

If you think that's all cops do? You're on cloud effing 9 pal.

Try being with one and hearing the stories she goes through. Your opinion would change fast!

Do I think they could do more? Of course in a perfect world it would make sense.

Personal safety is the MOST important thing. They're are making the community safe. Everything else becomes #2

If you think that's all cops do?

Obviously they do....

They think TRAFFIC cops investigate motorcycle thefts when it's quite obvious traffic cops sit in court all day so they can listen to people that know they broke the law cry like children about their tickets....

Not only that but as much as they try to schedule court days on the officers "on duty time" there are times a cops day off or holiday is ruined bc they get summoned to appear in court over a needless case.

But there are a lot of GTAMers who apparently know exactly what it's like as an officer.

Half the haters have no idea the trivial stuff they have to deal with. That they'd prefer not to. Like you or your neighbour calling over a noise complaint or a domestic.

Oh btw do you think for one minute the police force would send uniformed officers in marked police cars to investigate things like bike thefts?

Really? That just shows how much you know.

Not the cops fault you make your bike available for theft.
Anyways...you buy bike and insurance...your bike gets stolen...thief makes money...new buyer gets a bike cheap...insurance gives you money for a new one...motorcycle companies get you for 2 bikes this year...ups all our insurance rates a bit...cops have some paper work to do...keeps them busy. Everyone benefits...it's a win win situation....oh ya we the consumer...we pay and pay..etc.You get stressed a bit...pop some pills the doctor scores...the pharmacy and drug company all win. Tale of the story is...if you truly love your bike...take care of it...don't put it in harm's way. Tell my kids this sheet all the time.

I appreciate all the responses and I definitely agree with some and disagree with others. Yes it may sound funny to protest stolen bikes but really, my goal was to try and do something about it as a community. No one really answered that besides one suggestion which was to write to The Star.

Seriously, you guys are just happy with people coming and stealing your bikes, and after lots of simple frustration as some of you put it, not doing anything about it?

Where did anyone say they are happy when their bike gets stolen or they don't feel for the people who do?

You want to go have a public hissy fit to acomplish nothing more than piss off the people you think are supposed to dedicate the rest of their career to find the bike YOU got stolen?

Really?

The police take your report and you go to insurance. If your bike shows up they call you. They don't give a **** about looking for the thing YOU lost.

Clear?

By all means keep calling them and asking the same question over and over again. That will make them want to help you.

i know what im saying...i hear the stories from the brass.
its pretty ridiculous.

but no doubt personal safety first, but tucked right in under there is spending most days catching speeders...quick cash instead of prevention
