nice sound, the RSV4 definitely beats the other 2 on sound! I as a beemer man like the RSV4 sound more than my S1000RR's .. that would also be the only thing I like more about it :)

If you rode one, you'd have to comment on at least the chassis as well. It feels nothing like a japanese sportbike.

For those of you who haven't heard a RSV4 (Tuono V4 sounds roughly the same):
And yeah the pipe is ugly, but it sounds good. Fly-by in the second half of the video.

I would NEVER get tired of listening to that

The neutral mid RPM throttle hold reminded me of the crossplane R1's :)

Sure, but the R1 has a lot of design flaws in it (do you really want me to list 'em?) whereas the Aprilia makes no bones at all about the fact that it's a race bike and any complaints you might have of it do not matter in the context of its intended purpose. :D

have to agree on this. I also find it hard to compare the r1 with the RSV4

but but the pillion seat isnt very comfortable for my 200lb girlfriend....

The SOUND people, the SOUND! lol.

You guys are funny :)

I'm loving my "new" 07 R1 :D

See, the 07s aren't bad. Althought that said, the one that I know about had a bad head on it and was replaced with a Cdn SBK spare head (only one they had in Canada, lol) because of it. And my other friend with an 05 had two heads done on warranty and sounded like a bag of hammers when it was crashed at the end of '10, think he just dodged a third replacement.

So keep that in mind.

But still, if you're going to have a R1, there are three to own... 1998, 2001, 2008 and that's about it. All the others have issues or are not the top bike to own. :) BTW, there were significant changes to the motor for 2008... despite Yamaha's claim that there wasn't much done.

Same friend with the '05 has already had clutch and chain tensioner go in his '10. Known issue with the first 18 months of the crossplane's production. Speaking of chain tensioners, the one in my other friend's 07 was replaced with a manual one this spring for the same reason (but it did last a few seasons).

Well got to say I love my 10 RSV4 Fctory - yeah its a bit much for the street but take it down to the Smokies and you can have a spirited ride for sure - Cherohola, Blood Mountain, Russell B Parkway, Lake Burton Road etc etc...
.
Use a CBR600RR right now for the track but imagine the Ape will migrate there at some time.

And yeah - the sound!!!!

Thanks for the info :) I'll probably replace the chain tesnsioner with a manual one, seeing as the one on my car just let go (no damage thankfully). My R1 only has 13k km's on it, so still pretty fresh :D

Hopefully it'll cook me a little less after the install session this weekend :)

The one in my buddy's 2010 went at 6,000 and now that I think of it, another one I know of went at 4,500. No damage to either, thankfully - they noticed the rattle and had the problem looked at before valves and pistons turned everything else into a garage sale. Now I am surrounded by the damn things because Yamaha has been selling them off at huge discounts to make the bike move off the lot. Bikes like the ones this thread started out with are a big part of the reason why... BMW, Ducati, Aprilia all have had their best sales in years.

I don't think anyone foresaw that Japanese superbikes would be left stuck in the mud like has happened.

And the percentage of people who are drag or road racers and might actually notice a 10hp difference isss....................... lol

As a race bike that'd be a pretty big hit, but i'm thinking the ape has more room for gains then the bimmer

10whp is pretty significant, the cbr125 has only 13hp at the crank, so about 11whp. And let me put it this way:
a human being = 0.5whp and cbr125 = 11whp. so the difference between a cbr125 and you(a human being) is similar to the difference between S1000RR and 1199s.
so in other words: no comparison!
q.e.d.

Too bad it looks like to was pushed off the ugly cliff and hit every rock on the way down.

when faced with the facts, that is pretty much the one and ONLY excuse people can come up with. to me the new 1199 is ugly and the rsv4 is just average.

Thats cuz you're wearing BMW glasses bro

 fanboys

Honestly, that extra 10hp is in a place that almost nobody can make use of. You can't ride it like a 750 because it's got too much power, but if you don't then you can't use it. And on the track, my GSX-R just stomps it for less than half the cash... but of course it doesn't have all the "safety stuff" on it.

I know it's contrarian but the S1KRR has never really impressed me, and I'm a guy who used to be *all about* top end power. Somewhere along the line I learned that there is a lot more to enjoying a bike than that.

If straight line power is what you are after, get a '99 Hayabusa and add a turbo system. Total investment of around $10K and you will stomp everything this side of pro drag bikes like a bug. Just sayin'. :)

Edit: Just read that moto-usa review... interesting how one magazine got totally different numbers for the Aprilia. Just sayin'... but they turned a low 10 @ 140 and change with the standard bike, no variable intakes like on the Factory. I wonder if this is the same bike that Roadracing World got, and it's been abused to the point where it's not working its best anymore.
