Outdoor Cat Issues

First off, I'm not a cat hater...

3 or 4 neighborhood outdoor cats have decided my backyard, pool deck & car hood are excellent places to hangout. Some of their favorite activities include knocking over my garage cans at night, leaving dirty paw prints on the hood of my nice white car and popping inflatable pool toys.

I would love to confront the owners if I knew who these pets belonged to but I don't, so I can't. I just want these cats to find a new place to party.

I have thought about trying to coax them in the house then calling Animal Control, but I don't know how.
Another idea came from my 6 yr old son who won't shut up about getting a dog. I've thought about getting him one just to chase cats away but that's a bad reason to own a dog.

I'm open to ideas. The lazier the better.

Thanks

Cats are way smarter than dogs.

Are you sure it's a not a racoon?

Start with a paint gun, if that doesn't work host a community bbq? :)

i have the same problem.. i just bought my house 4mnts ago and i guess the owner left behind his two cats, 1 i dont see anymore, but the other cat come's and lives on my back step.... Paint ball guns work well to scare them away, or i just let my dog out now and HE hates cats....

Nope, it's cats. The garbage doesn't get eaten, just knocked over. They use it as a launching or landing pad when traveling by fence. The best part is when it's full of my 2yr's pooy diapers.

One of these should work and then give them to the humane society or reloacte them yourself, because no matter what you do minus relocating or killing them, they will keep coming back.

I can bring my dog over, might cost you a couple beers :)

I have a cat and she's "semi" outdoor. As in, our back yard only, with supervision. With that being said, a paintball gun on low PSI setting would work the best.

There are sprays out there that will work but they dont last long and have to keep reapplying it.

Yup 'rent' a dog off someone. They will scare the cats away.

Not my dog though as he wouldnt care about other animals being there

Motion detector sprinkler. Goes off when they come into the yard (they are adjustable). Once they get sprayed a few times they will learn to avoid your yard.

Also works for racoons, skunks, rabbits, etc.

Also works for people stalking around your yard at night.

Lee Valley has motion-activated ultrasonic devices specifically for this purpose. CatStop - around $55 each. I use several to keep raccoons off my deck. Lee Valley also has motion-activated sprinklers.

Cats around the yard is actually a benefit. They keep pest population down, like rodents

Interesting.. How effective is it on raccoons?

You only need to scare them away a few times and they should get the message.

I can sell you bag of dog poop for cheap - organic, from raw fed dogs. Spread it around backyard - cats will get the message.

definitely use the hose. it's cheap easy and fun however you may never see your son again after he starts hunting cats. sprinkler is a good alternative while your away or at night.

then the fancy more expensive way like others mentioned is the motion sensor. I have a couple to stop my own cat from getting into places he shouldn't be. They are expensive but do work well in the small area.

I also have a supersoaker and at this point all I have to do is pick it up and my cat goes running.

Keep i mind I do like cats as well but mine is a smart crazy SOB
