Organ donation in Ontario

I don't think I've ever been presented with the opportunity to sign up as a donor, and I've never felt the need to seek it out on my own. With that being said Im totally not opposed to it so if I was ever asked to sign on, I'd do it.

It now take 30 seconds to do it online. do why not do it?

What if I asked... just for the hell of it. You said your not opposed and just never been asked....

So would you sign up? The link is there. Its quick its easy and prob would mean anything to you, just your family when you die and the people you save.

Day 2 of trying and still a no go.

Maybe eventually I'll be able to sign up.

Like I said, I never came across an opportunity to sign up and I never seeked it out either.

I've since gone to the link and registered, it took 30 seconds and more people should do it.

Year and a half on 'the list'... Someone signed their card... I'm still here! Yay!

I had some stickers made up for my old bike... I need some new ones for the new bike but they will come along

Long time donor. Losing value with passage of time. Giving plasma/plateletes in meantime.

Way to go man! Thats wicked! I know for sure they are willing to consider up to 60 as viable donors.

I think its horrid that after you tell everyone your intentions to donate that once the time comes they can still say 'NO'.

I'm also sure that everyone who is waiting is happy to know that all you other people are willing to help, and riding donor-bikes ;)

Interesting sticker, I like it

when you sign your card, make sure your family and loved ones know and understand that you want to donate your organs. it only takes one family member not being willing with the idea for the hospital to abandon donation.

I did it this morning at 5:20am and it went through smoothly. Actually it told me that I am already registered...

You can also use the site the revoke or change your request once you have registered as a donor.
I've been a registered donor for years and the site recognized this.

Oh well I've been registered for ages so maybe I don't have to do it.

Organ donor for a long time -
if someone else can use them all the power to them better than becoming a feast for bugs.

I can't imagine ever waiting for an organ for a family member knowing that there are people who die every day who for what ever reason are not willing to sign their card.

and yes family has the final say - I told all of them I would come back and haunt them for the rest of their lives if they went against my wishes!

I told my family the same thing, would haunt there souls for all of eternity if they wasted my parts.

Does a will override families say?

Think you need a living will for that? A regular will gets read too late for them to use your organs. A living will takes care of DNRs etc. (do not resusicate) I would throw it in there if you can and feel like you need to.

Cool thanks, something to think about, even if family agree's to respect your wishes, never know how they will react when actually faced with the situtation.

Only catch though is someone has to be on your side.... you need an executer. Ususally someone who will respect your wishes regardless of them agreeing to your requests or not.

Oh lol, that can be anybody though right? Lawyer, doctor, ect?

Usually family or friends. Its just written in your will that such person will exact your wishing. I am in my moms after my uncle. If for whatever reason he turns it down, I get it. Usually descussed with the person. My mom approached me and asked if I would have a problem following thru with her requests. If I had said yes then she would have gone to someone else.

Oh I see, can you put something like a disqualification in your will, i.e. if the person appointed doesn't respect wished etc. the are disqualified and the next person takes over. lol this is starting to sound like a game show of sorts LOL

LMAO yeah I guess cept your life and quality of life is in the balance. No the name thats on there is the one the docs will call. That person will have a copy of your will and will show up at the hospital saying "here I am heres proof that I am the executor (theres some legal stuff involved so look it up) and heres the will. I will take over the decisions from here." Only comes into play when you can't. Coma or on life support, mental state compromised, etc. This is something agreed upon by you and that person before you put their name down.

Only reason my name is there is my uncle thinks he might have a hard time taking my mom off life support should he need to and both he and my mom agreed to put another name down so that if he can't then I will. She knows I will respect her wishes no matter how hard it is.
