Organ donation in Ontario

Organ donor for a long time -
if someone else can use them all the power to them better than becoming a feast for bugs.

I can't imagine ever waiting for an organ for a family member knowing that there are people who die every day who for what ever reason are not willing to sign their card.

and yes family has the final say - I told all of them I would come back and haunt them for the rest of their lives if they went against my wishes!

I'm sure the oranges would be appreciated, but I think the transplant recipient might prefer a heart or lungs or something :-D

Also, some people are worried that there is a black-market organ trade, and that an unscrupulous doctor will sell your innards when you go in to get that hang-nail removed.

Or less nefariously: what if you were a ER doctor, and you have a kid dying in one room, needs a heart/liver/etc to stay alive. In the next room, you have a 90yo guy with a signed organ donor card and a perfect organ, that you could save... what would you do?

That website is really slow... Keeps timing out on me. Soon I'll have my health card number memorized. I already remember my DOB...

The site went live today so I would assume that there are many people trying to access it.

This is not the first time that someone creates a website for something and the first thing it does is that is goes down under the interest. :(

its a free country. people can freely decide what they want to do with their body when they die.

As a response to the OP - registration of intent to donate organs is a fairly recent change to the system. Before the donor card was 'enough' ... I think awareness of the need to register is probably a bigger problem. As for me, I've had my donor card filled out ever since I got my donorcycle license. :P

It should be a given that you're a donor, and you have to sign NOT to be donor.

Did you ever see Meaning Of Life? Assigning rights to your body parts to the government by default might not be a good idea. However they shouldn't tie it to having a driver's license (pretty much everyone gets their donor card in the mail with their license), as they aren't quite ubiquitous anymore.

I don't think I've ever been presented with the opportunity to sign up as a donor, and I've never felt the need to seek it out on my own. With that being said Im totally not opposed to it so if I was ever asked to sign on, I'd do it.

I still have an old red and white health card, and have no reason to change it. I do always carry my donor card in my wallet. If I'm dead and gone, why not try to save someone elses life and save more people from the grief of losing a loved one. It's bad enough I die, why not prevent another persons death?

Im signed up to be a donor and also signed up with onematch.ca which is a worldwide database for bone marrow and blood etc.

My grandmother signed up to donate her body to science. Was a very interesting chat with the family but its her body and she wants to do some good with it.

I think we are dead anyways and perhaps how we die we wont have our organs anyways so whats the difference? I say help someone else live. One person can help so many.
