Not to mention the cop that didn't radar you but claims: 'you were catching up to him while he was going 140 so you must have been doing 150'.
Won't hold up in court most likely but doesn't stop them from impounding bike, taking away license and costing you a ton of money just to get your own stuff back and on the road again.

All of the above would probably not stand up in court but are entirely sufficient for a roadside lynching according to these stupid laws with no repercussions on cops taking liberties (or outright criminal acts).

Nobody should ever be convicted on the side of the road, it incentivises crooked police and tow truck/impound people to give out false charges.
The requirement for a 172 charge should be video evidence.
140+ on the 407 when there is no traffic is completely fine IMO. Red light runners and people who dont merge properly are far more dangerous.
Anyone doing 90 or 100 down a residential street should have the book thrown at them, provided there is evidence.
Its 2021, cruisers should have multiple cameras. Any ticket handed out should be backed up by video evidence. If it can be seen with the eye it can be seen with a camera. Would free up our court system and get rid of bogus tickets.

The idea that I can be hit with a $10-20K financial burden because my tire lost traction on a slope during rain is insanity.

Only works for speeding and not even that well. With no court case to win, cop can just say you were speeding and call the tow truck. No evidence is required.

Many of the 172 tickets were officers opinion. No opportunity to dispute even if you have solid evidence (maybe you have video of your actions that prove cop was optimistically interpreting law).

Works well for me and some are GPS enabled , show you red light cameras and can show cops like waze does,

Better than nothing for sure. With proper legal processes in place, very effective. As protection against 172/282 abuse, almost useless.

You gotta think big picture ,a lot of cops drive or sit on the side of the road with their radar on full-time. So between this and Waze you are at least getting a lot more protection than having nothing and a lot more warning than having nothing.

I've always hated the "well just...don't speed..." argument. Under that logic every vehicle on the road should have a speed limiter that reacts at about 130km/h. The fact that we have cars and motorcycles that can easily hit well over 200 km/h is kind of ridiculous if it's theoretically never needed. Personally I like to ride fast - but I also don't enjoy track riding as I prefer to go from point A to B and enjoy some scenery and the occasional stop for food and a drink. Anyone riding a 1000cc + sport bike understands that even at 120 km/h you're barely moving -and for bigger bikes like the ZX-14 the bike actually feels more responsive around 150 km/h+ since that's what the aerodynamics are designed for. Ive just never met a single rider that intended to buy a motorcycle to putt around at 100 km/h.

I suppose if you're using that around town then sure - I'd consider that more of a scooter than a motorcycle. Maybe its just me but I find anything below a 600cc to be a death trap on a highway. A friend bought a 250cc Kawi from Brampton and I rode it back to Peterborough for him as he didn't feel comfortable. Yea, no **** he didn't.... banging through the gears taking 6 seconds to pass transports on the 401 isn't exactly much fun.

I don't ride on motorways ... not even with the bigger bikes. It's not enjoyable, at all. If I have to go someplace far away to ride, the bike gets there in my van.

Eh, I don't see this changing much. To those that don't speed, no major change. To those that do, they likely have a flip plate and aren't stopping anyways. The riders who go 40+kmh over the limit and don't have a flipper/plan are the ones who this will largely effect.

I have 0 issue with them implementing this new law HOWEVER the roadside stuff needs to be revised. The fact that you can be hit with major (irreversible) financial burdens from an officers roadside opinion is not right.

I have a lot of seat time on 250s, little cruisers (250 Marauder, VStar, Rebel etc) are no good on the highway, but a Ninja 250 will cruise all day at 120 and will still accelerate as well as a small car to 140.

It will, but the bike weighs so little it just doesnt feel comfortable being on a highway. I personally feel the most dangerous place you can be on a motorcycle is in traffic. I like to be fast enough to constantly be a bit ahead with some middle ground. Whenever I'm on a bike where vehicles are passing me it's incredibly unnerving.

Furthermore though, why do they even make ZX-14s, Concours, Hayabusas, BMW K 16 etc. These are not track bikes, yet they can reach unbelievable road speeds, and are sold as road vehicles. Same can be said for any super car, but it's just such a juxtaposition of wow...that bikes fast! You better not ever go above the speed limit though.

That’s just experience. Outside North America 250 is a big boys bike. Once you get some seat time, the fear and worry go away.

True. 600cc+ options are limited, at least legally. Outside NA and EU, most own bikes <=150cc, and for most who learn riding on a 125, a 250 is dream come true.

A CBR250R can cruise at 120 comfortably. I took one from the top to the bottom of India, and it was a delight to ride.

I'm not really concerned with 172, it will hurt mainly sport bike riders. I am concerned that the increase in immediate suspensions violate the Charter of Rights. In fact, I'm getting tired of Doug Ford's authoritarian laws lately.

172 was there before Doug. This goes back to not opening doors for the government in the first place.
