Yeah, it’s not like there’s a global pandemic causing hospitals to get overrun and that’s killed almost 3 million people despite all the efforts of the last year, or anything.

?
And we've been under a mandated wear a mask order for the last what, 7 months.

Guess they're really working well considering when one mask didn't work, their logical solution was to advise everyone to wear two... ?

And spare me the typical rhetoric of "oh well people aren't wearing them..."

How many people do you HONESTLY see in your day to day that aren't wearing one?

I work in big box retail that sees upwards of 40,000 customers a week.

We employ over 400 people and in the last 14 months we've had 4 confirmed cases and NONE of them were contracted from the workplace or from each other.

I see MAYBE one curstomer a day that isn't wearing one and as soon as you ask them to put one on they do.

I play by the rules. I wear a mask.
I stay home unless going to work, or it's an essential trip.

But something isn't working and I doubt that people not wearing a mask is it...

It's part of it (that's not working) along with a bunch of other things. A couple of weeks ago New Zealand had a Crowded House concert for 12,000 people. Masks and all the other stuff worked for them as people played by the rules, took things seriously and there were penalties if you didn’t. Here everyone knows better than virologists/epidemiologists/infectious disease specialists/biochemists/chemists and that’s why we are where we are.

It's an infectious disease spread by aerosol. Keep people apart and prevent aerosol release. It’s not rocket science but for some it seems it might as well be.

big box store... Everyone masked up... No cases contracted at the store... So you trying to tell us that masks do work? Gotcha!

And comparatively, we’ve done not bad until the much easier to spread variant came along and we’re where we are now.

I guess some people would like us to be Brazil. Working out pretty awesome for them right now, 4000 deaths a day and climbing, hospital system collapsed.

Numbers are dropping there daily .

Actually, their raw infection numbers are starting to trend upwards when you look at the macro numbers of the last 2 weeks..

Hospitalization too.

And their 7 day daily death average is still 73 people a day, so hey, they’re doing awesome I guess, but that’s trending down. Ours are too, but as we’re seeing first hand right now, that’s not the panacea some expected.

Pretty sure their testing numbers are pretty low as well so don’t doubt that their infectionnumbers are actually artificially low as a result. I’ll dig up that info later.

Like their modeling was ever correct .
Modeling is rarely "correct". It gives you a reasonable idea of the range of expected outcomes. Would you prefer no modeling and a monkey throwing darts? (I know, I know, we already have a monkey throwing darts but at least there is some modeling which helps to determine how many he gets to throw).

There it is . Curfew coming to a neibourhood near you . They are doing a trial balloon to see the response .

I know you don't like Douggies ideas, but I haven't seen you proposing viable alternatives? Would you prefer triage? Doing nothing is the worst option imo.

Actually, it’s been pretty solid unless you’re making that statement based on the fact the absolutely worst case statistics didn’t come true.

Which wouldn’t be very smart.

If anything’s screwing up the mean numbers in the last modelling it’s the fact Douggie opened up too soon, and the variants.

I think due to covid fatigue, Dougie doesn't have the oomph to implement curfew anymore...

Curfew = political suicide

or maybe he does want to be a martyr for this cause :rolleyes:
