I know thus the paid sick time off.
It exists. You login to CRA, click off I have covid or my kid has covid or health unit told me to isolate or . . . and you get a deposit in a few days. What do you want the sick leave for? Work is putting you in danger so you go on sick leave until it passes?

I'm in Quebec and have been dealing with a curfew since Christmas. It's not so bad if you work a normal schedule, but I definitely feel for the people that get off work at like 7:30pm and have no time to do anything.

I have no problem with being annoyed especially when it continues for so long with no end in site nor modifications to accommodate some common issues. Smashing stores and stealing things does nothing to improve the situation, that just makes you an ahole. Congratulations, you have made someone else's life much worse, do you feel better now? PS, government still isn't going to change anything. I'm even ok with protests that have some logic (eg. masks, separation, etc). Many protests I have seen are a kum bay yah love fest with no masks and everyone jammed together to protest. So so dumb. If you spread out, you could have a crowd along blocks instead of jammed in a single square or park.

I agree. I'm in favour of the measures, including the curfew, as I pretty firmly believe they're needed to save lives. But I also understand why some people would oppose them and want to protest.

It's just a shame that the protests are always filled with the anti-mask conspiracy theorists. It just drowns out the voices of the reasonable people who think a curfew is a step too far.

Same - checked a few news websites, no hits!?

Scaremongering, at this point.

Of all the things that you could/should do to curb the spread of an infectious disease, a curfew seems to me to be the least effective thing you could do. How, exactly, is a curfew supposed to stop people from being too close together indoors in conditions of either high noise or poor ventilation or both?

If they want people to stop gathering indoors, the best countermeasure is to allow everything outdoors except huge, crowded events.

I was hearing on 680 News earlier today that Toronto was considering suspending the bylaw that currently prohibits drinking alcoholic beverages in city parks. That actually makes sense. If you accept that people want to see their friends once in a while, under current circumstances, do you want them to do that indoors in their own homes hidden from public view and scrutiny, or do you want them to do that outdoors and accept the possibility that someone might want to have a beer or two?

edit: Most other civilised places in the world, don't have a problem with someone having a beer outdoors in public (as long as they are not causing a disturbance, of course). IMO this is a bylaw that should go away permanently.

I heard the little motels up by Orangeville/Shelburne are busy with people using them for meeting/socializing out of public eye.

There's a whole lot of covert evening social gatherings going on in peoples houses...both in the mature demographic, and the young and stupid teen/20's demographic.

If they know they're going to catch hell and a big fat ticket if they're seen out past curfew headed home from said events...it will stop a few of these from happening.

Quebec is doing something better than us, their covid infections are 1/3 of ours right now.

There was an issue in Kingston with gatherings outdoors...outdoors on its own wasn’t the issue, it was the large groups, no masks (close contact) , no social distancing. That’s exactly what you’ll get if the alcohol laws are relaxed sadly. It will be ruined by the few.

I'm conflicted about this. A few will change their behaviour for the better, but if they were already hanging out inside someones house, I suspect curfew will turn it into a sleepover instead of a visit more often than not.

Only took them a year.

I don't disagree, but the difference now is Dougie tried to do the "open for business, folks" song and dance here way too early, while Quebec looked at the science and stayed locked down. And the rest is history.

No such thing as an anti masker.

There's "maskers", and there's people that just want to live their life as they always have...

Well this is certainly an interesting comment.

Care to elaborate?

Yeah, it’s not like there’s a global pandemic causing hospitals to get overrun and that’s killed almost 3 million people despite all the efforts of the last year, or anything.
