Omar Khadr Gets Bail... A War Criminal? A War Victim? Which is it?

Sorry to jump in without reading the entire thread, but i have a question that goes to the very root of this issue: why was this 15 year old charged with a crime at all? There was a war. People were shooting and killing each other on both sides. Is one side not allowed to fight back?
Good point.

Apparently not.

Fifteen-year-old child warrior, who from his point of view was fighting against foreign invaders. How does one get charged with unlawful murder for killing an enemy soldier who was part of an attack force attacking you and yours with deadly force in a war zone? Whatever happened to POW status?

On the rare occasions when it happens, American soldiers are charged because they murder or torture captives who are not combatants, or when they do so to a combatant who is already in secure custody. That is a whole lot different than killing in the course of an active fire-fight where the other side is also armed and actively engaged in a current fire-fight.

American soldiers are in someone else's country, killing their people. Not the other way around. If ever you see Afghani soldiers in New York city killing innocent people, then all American people have every right to defend themselves against them.

And before you say 9/11, U.S has been killing people all over the world from Vietnam to Korea to Libya to Iraq to many South American countries and the list goes on.

US attacks, invades, steals and murders millions in the process and calls it all, gifting democracy!

Democracy by way of Peace Process. I know more than a few who said after 911, well of course.

Absolutely, democracy is great but you cant bomb a country into peace. Also, U.S has a funny policy about democracy. If the democracy in a country is not playing into their hand, its an immediate coup, over throw the government even if democratically elected and install yout own puppet government. Libya, Egypt and Ukraine are some examples.

On the other hand, we have countries like Saudi Arabia who are a monarchy and know nothing of democracy. Where women cant even drive a car, yet somehow these countries are great American allies who apparenlty DO NOT need democracy and U.S doesnt mind that their people have no say in anything.

I was being cheeky. I feel comfortable doing that after listening to Noam Chomskys' riff on the usa definition of peace process. Good times.

Why do you insist that a 15 year old doesn't know right from wrong? What age is acceptable to you when they do know right from wrong???

American soldiers have been charged with murder during a firefight.
