Now THIS is how you complain.

Having a speed trap on Mississauga Road just north of Steeles, which used to be a 70 zone 2 lane road and is now a 4 lane road with a concrete divider but which is still a 60 zone because although the road construction is finished the signs haven't been taken down yet ... is about revenue generation, not safety.

Same crap on Hwy 7 near Airport after they finished the construction but before they took down the lower speed limit signs a couple years ago, same crap on Castlemore after they finished construction but before they took down the lower speed limit signs, etc.

If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.

That wasn't really aimed at you. It was aimed at those who think that minor little breaches are no big deal, and that the cops should be out dealing with "real" crime like stolen motorcycles or TVs where there is "intent" to do cause harm.

If you take the words of certain people here at face value, they seem to suggest that even though 11 people died in this one, the driver's failing to stop offence shouldn't be considered a big deal because after all, he didn't intend to hurt anyone.

As far as being on the main roads more, that fine and well, but there also needs to be a presence on the back roads as well lest people see those areas as being police-free free-rein zones. I can think of a few roads south of Algonquin and near Parry Sound that could use a more consistenty robust presence. It might even help cut down on the motorcycle injury and fatality toll out there.

Fair enough. Didn't mean to bark btw.

Like I said earlier, nothing here is black and white. For anyone, me included, to say "resources should be taken from X and placed into Y" is oversimplification of something that isn't simple at all.

Why does it seem like you only care about speeders and aggressive drivers man. you said yourself that "Speed differentials between traffic increases risk of crash"

So why not look at the timid drivers doing 70-80 in 100 zones?
Clueless drivers doing 80-90 on the left lane forcing everyone to weave around them?
Clowns that merge slower than traffic, forcing everyone in the right lane to slam on their brakes to let them in? (i notice this one a lot)

turbologic doesn't work that way. the person doing 70-80 that is a moving hazard on the 401 isn't breaking the law even if traffic is wizzing by at 100km an hour.

cause those clowns dont get caught in speed traps.

again, police should PATROL the roads. not hide and trick people like this guy did

Your traffic cops in shining armour didn't exactly save any lives there did they.

Just shows that police forces can't make the community safer by issuing traffic tickets over investigating crime, they can only make the municipality richer.

Did he ever say any of those things?

No.

Way to stir up the debate by putting words in people's mouths though.

Love the personal attacks going on too.

fwiw....my nephew has been with TPS for a while now....picked a crime-ridden division and got it....and is trying for Guns & Gangs and seems to be impressing and progressing

he reluctantly goes out to get his quota....which amounts to one ticket per shift....no argument on there being quota btw....it's crystal clear

I've asked him for his take on the full time traffic cop.....and the reply was... "oh yeah, the plugs and wallies"

aka....no respect

if you're a veteran doing full-time traffic, you're just there to get your paycheque....and if you're a rookie doing full-time traffic then you're one step higher than a security guard and didn't have the skills or marks to make the grade

Turbo....any time you'd like to sit down with the young man I'd be happy to arrange it

Sounds like you agree with Turbo then.

Focus here. The complaint is that police enforce traffic laws constantly, while at the same time they can't afford an officer to investigate crime.
.

What do u suggest - sending a traffic cop to investigate b&e's and other major crimes?

Turbodish - there are too many stupid/useless statements on here to even begin arguing with them.

One of my friends own a contract snowplowing business. This is an ad verbatim quote from his post on my car forum this morning. License plate height blitz on snowplows? While they're busy clearing the streets? Please. As my buddy who recently left 51 div. (in disgust) was fond of saying (in reference to his fellow unionized employee's views on handling actual crime), Swerve and Reject, baby. Swerve and Reject.

"Good job! TO Cops help make this morning's snowstorm commute safer for you all...

by having a blitz on the worst criminals in the bunch...snowplow truck operators!

Ticket for Obscured Front License plate b/c it wasn't mounted high enough to see over the plow. I was actually parked in an auto repair shop - that I've mentioned here - they followed me into the parking lot...cherries on. WTF?? "We're doing a blitz on snowplows and their obscured license plates". Dumb look on my face. I requested from the cop that I could go right inside the repair shop and have the plate moved before he would even be able to write a ticket (it was moved before they drove off). "Well, I already gave another guy a warning."

The hell with quattro. You should all feel safer b/c of this crack team of detectives and trained tax collectors getting the bad guys off the road. Nevermind that I was out I didn't want one of my guys to miss coaching kids' hockey. Nevermind that I was out trying to clear snow so ******bags like him could get to work.

Fvck You Toronto Police"

1. You actually believe things posted on the internet
2. Yes snowplow drivers save lives & make the world a better place.. *insert sarcasm here*
3. How do you know that "snowplow guy" didn't have background with TPS - could be a known drug dealer, could have come from a known crack house, local bar, not a legally registered snowplow etc there are too many "what it's/ could haves" then just a simple HTA ticket
4. If you don't want a ticket / charge etc then DONT DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL.

Huh? so people that get HTA tickets are all potential hardcore criminals? what are you talking about?

It's easy to say "he is an innocent guy trying to make a living & saving lives by snowplowing" but he COULD be a regular career criminal. You never know ... A lot of "what ifs" for the reason they pulled him over - as stated above- not solely for the purpose of giving an HTA violation.
