Poor firearm discipline? You've seen the videos of the crap that happens when they pull their guns. Sweeping each other, people downrange of their target, etc. It's a complete crapshow. Again, not the fault of individual officers, their firearms training is entirely inadequate for the role they are told to fulfill.
Well… you have to ask Staff Sargent friend of mine how that happens .
There was also the incident where a Halton officer was shot in the leg while doing a western style fast draw competition with another officer in the station house . My wife was working ER when he was brought in . Nine versions of what happened were reported.
Being allowed to carry a gun does not guarantee you should be.
And unions ….
It feels like the police these days don't seem to appreciate how dangerous guns actually are, so don't treat them with the respect and caution that's needed, don't learn or if they do they don't practice safe handling, don't learn ballistics, have zero situational awareness etc etc. It all goes back to poor recruitment process (getting recruits with the wrong mentality for the job) and poor training.

The NS enquiry is turning out to be stonewalling to the nth degree.
The Texas shooting is changing from brave defenders rushing to help to standing around waiting to see what was happening.
The Ottawa truckers occupation showed OPS and all levels of government totally incompetent.
Sammy Yutin trial had police committing perjury.
Police shot and killed a person in Scarborough. It turns out the weapon the deceased was carrying was a BB or pellet gun. Police refuse to release preliminary details, possibly a good idea if it doesn't turn out to be a cover-up.
Child shot and killed by police bullet in the Kawarthas.
Credibility in general is about on a par with Putin's.

I am really curious about the Scarborough one did they just murder some guy walking down the street carrying a bb gun he could have legally bought at Canadian tire. If he was just walking down the street and not threatening anyone he was doing nothing illegal or wrong.

Apparently bb gun had a scope on it. That doesnt help the argument he was doing nothing wrong. Carrying around a long gun with a scope within the city is epically stupid and can probably get you a charge (mischief?). Hopefully this guy did something stupid like raising it at the cops and they didnt just mow him down out of fear.

Not many details but 680 was interviewing a witness that said they heard 2 officers yelling to ‘drop the gun and put your hands up’ multiple times before 4 shots were heard.
I’ll take it with a grain of salt but ‘suicide by cop’ is also a possibility.
Too bad all around. But IMO opinion…BB gun or real, you got to be a special kind of stupid to be carrying that around a day after the Texas massacre (or any other given time).

Many decades ago I was working in downtown Hamilton, next to city hall, and testing some infrared equipment including non contact thermometers. One was a pistol sized one not unlike the ones available for kitchen / BBQ use. The other was for checking more distant items like transformers and power lines.
For the latter the designer / manufacturer used a standard wooden rifle stock and telescope lens. We were waving the thing around without thinking and pointing it at city hall commenting on the hot air.
A few minutes after we put the thing away a couple of Brinks guards came around the corner carrying a bag of cash. It could have been ugly.
Stupid happens.
With the Scarborough shooting, one can speculate like an armchair quarterback but to the officers on site, their lives or those of their comrades were on the line. Tough choice but if the reports of warnings were ignored.........................
If your walking around Toronto and a cop yells more than once to put down the gun, and you don’t put down the gun . Your going to get shot . Doesn’t matter why your walking around . It’s not in a case .
Nobody will ask, hey , what caliber gun are you carting around .

One of them pled guilty in 2018 to criminal charges and resigned.
The other played out normally. Her investigation just wrapped up:
1) She had 3+ Years of paid suspension (since Nov 2018) while the internal investigation plays out. That's a stay at home, collect your full salary, benefits and pension seniority/
2) Plead down to discreditable conduct, crown dropped all criminal charges. Cry, promise it will never happen again. It looks like the police tribunal is considering the standard take a standard demotion for a year or two then back like it never happened.

I'm all for giving people a second chance and all that, but I feel like this just leads to a case of "well if so and so got away with it, I can as well". If they're going to get fully compensated for being bad at their jobs, can we at least tie them to the pillory and toss some tomatoes at them?
holy cow this is unearthing a ton.
RCMP commissioner wanting to provide investigation compromising details to push a useless gun ban.
Loved ones not given proper information on their deceased family members and finding out via social media.
Lack of organization leading to multiple changes in death counts by police.
the dirty politics and complete mishandling of these events is mind-boggling.
