Nova Scotia's mass casualty commission

Buddy had an old Crown Vic which he modified to look like a cop car. Blacked out rims, windows, and some fake antennas.

Also installed some LEDs hidden in the grill and had a magnetic red light he stuck on the roof.

Would pull over people with it and then take off as a joke. Shockingly he never got caught.
If he ever got caught the cops would nail him to the wall.

I used to have one as well. My experience was people would move out of the left lane immediately if I was behind them. Miss that car.
I saw an EX police car in Vancouver that had a license plate "NOTACOP"

This was many many years ago. He didn’t get caught, and I’ll assume he’s grown up and learned not to be a dumbass.

Youngest Master Mechanic I ever met. Good guy. Got pinned under a car on his bike one year.

WTF does this have to do with Trudeau?

Because that’s who 99% +/- of the people thought about when they read that?

But you’re right. Certainly don’t want to offend peopelkind. That goes double for any peoplekind from Persontoba. 🙄

Mechanics put that sign in when they are driving police cars. I've never seen one cover lights or logos though.
I have a tire place that does YRP police cars near my house, and a Ford dealer near my shop -- both have out of service police cars coming and going all day long. I see them fly a drip-ledge flag and that's about it. I can't recall ever seen anything covering logos, lights, or a sig in the rear window.

At the end of the day any car of the same or similar model can be painted to look like a police cruiser, depending on the force buy one in white or black to make it easier. Stopping the sale of old police cars will not prevent anything but if they do sell them they should of course be stripped of the stripes, logos and any lights etc. Then it is just a beat up car/SUV for auction. Unforeseen consequences could also be an impact to the Canadian film industry....

Back not that long ago old police cars were the mainstay of the taxi industry and still are in some locations. Here in TO and many other places they put rules in about the age of the taxi which stopped this as old cop cars are aged out for taxi service before they are sold off.

Back in the day my parents had a Caprice (Impala). A friend of mine wanted to mess with his paranoid buddy and had me put on a shirt and tie and drive around for a few hours following him.... the next day the guy was totally freaking out. The base Caprice just looked like a narc-mobile.

Another buddy had a Dodge Diplomat, in heavy traffic on the highway he could blast down the left lane just by flashing is highs off and on. It was like the parting of the red sea.... again, just base model Diplomat, slant six....

Both looked like undercover cars but at the end of the day some paint, stripes and lights on the current equivalents.... no need to buy an old police car. no need for a cop motor....cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks....

Buy a black charger with super dark windows and dark wheels….instant parting of the Red Sea.

Throw in a bar in the front and everyone will think you’re a cop. Including me. And then curse you and call you a$$hole for the car you drive when you pass by.

I can only imagine people think they’re super cool by pretending to be a cop…without being a cop.

I know someone who has a dark blue Ford Taurus SHO. The blackout grille on the SHO is the same as the one the police interceptor uses.

I also know someone who used to have a white Ford Explorer.

We've all seen the ticket-fighting paralegals who have their company cars dressed up to look like a cop car at first glance.

Everyone who knows anything about cars knows what unmarked traffic-enforcement cop cars look like. If the cops don't want cop-impersonation issues then maybe they should stop using unmarked for anything except undercover work.

Be careful what you wish for. A buddy had an ex cop crown vic. Where ever he went people in front of him would slow down to the limit thinking he was a cop.
On occassion would drive a white LT1 Caprice. The grille was either painted black or from an Impala SS, I don't remember which - OPP would drive them with regular silver grilles, so it's not like that was intentionally emulating police (also at the time this happened, I'm pretty sure the OPP had retired all the Caprices from the fleet). Still though! The 401 would part like the Red Sea, especially when cruising in the left lane. There was also an invisible wall behind the car that nobody could penetrate to pass you

NS passed a law the used cop cars are now destroyed. and something about not legal to have cop clothing. We had until the other day to turn stuff in. Its in the local news.
Toronto Fire uniforms have to be stripped of badges and not repurposed other than maybe rags.

except for the civilian looking light grey Ford Explorer with alloy wheels and tinted glass roaming hamilton. haven't seen him in a while, but the only way I used to spot him is by remembering his license plate which skips my mind right now.

OPP Niagara have a Suburban dressed the same way, nearly impossible to spot.

The peel ram isnt that easy to spot. Year ago they have GMC savannahs with flashers inside the normal light housings. Unless you knew the plate, you couldnt tell until they turned on the lights.

Would be nice if they could relinquish those for the trades workers who actually need them, there is a huge shortage of vans on the market due to the chip shortage.

Yep, 6-8 month wait list for a new one. "Second hand" ones with 0kms at dealerships selling for $10k over msrp. 3-4yr old used ones with 100k on the odo selling for msrp on kijiji lol. The industry has gone insane. Might sell my van now and wait 6 months to buy a new one...
