No more license stickers…

I may have said it before, however I printed the receipt that was emailed to me after renewing my plates and I keep it with my ownership and insurance documents...just in case...oh, and we removed the stickers too...

Good practice, but for driving in Quebec people were getting tickets in the mail without getting pulled over, so no way to prove they were valid. I had no idea you could also be fined for leaving your car unlocked! They've got some weird rules there.

Once i saw this gem i knew they were upside down. It's in mainstream websites as well..

Uhmmm YEAH
They don't speak FRENCH french in Quebec, the speak Quebecois french.
Quebec has "ARRET" signs, France has stop signs. France has "french fries", Quebec has "pome frites"
They like to do things differently in the "Belle Province" ... you know, cuz QUEBEC
My favourite: If you're old enough you'll remember your school desk had a hole to put an ink well. At my wife's school (born and raised in Laval) they installed an ash tray there... in grade nine.
She transferred here for grade ten and thought french class would be easy, as she ONLY spoke french. Nope, couldn't understand the teacher and failed the class.

There was an article Toronto Star IIRC that EV's aren't paying road tax through gasoline taxes. If we go all EV, stickers could come back big time or we go to Km usage at renewal. Some places in the USA have that already as I understand.

Enjoy your sticker rebate while the politicians dream up a more expensive version.

French from France is different from French in Belgium, is different from French in New Brunswick, is different from French in other jurisdictions. Languages evolve differently in different environments.
Same goes with English around the world... like, have you been to newfoundland? My "uncle-in-laws" all from the same family father and mother each have different accents. And I also don't speak or understand "Letterkenny" English lol. And when i moved out west for a bit and had to understand Aussie's... well.. it took me a while lol.
The world is full of differences which makes it less boring. So i can understand how one of the very rare jurisdictions that still have French as an official language in America does things differently than the original colonizer after 400 years.
Funny enough i was talking about it with my French-from-France neighbour yesterday. Both our kids go to the same French school, same class and they have a mix of teachers from all around the world. And she's like "i have to actively stop myself from correcting my kid when he uses expressions that i didn't grow up with" because what's taught in Ontario is not what she learned as a kid and what my kid is learning is different from what i learned growing up in Quebec city. I've also had to adapt when i moved to Ontario as my bilingual coworkers were also from different backgrounds.
I've also encountered no one in my 22 years there that used "Pommes frites" which would be short for "Pommes de terre frites"... and i've worked in restaurants most of my older teen years (16-21). But it might be different in certain regions, as there are expressions used in Quebec city that won't be understood in Montreal, vice-versa (and that goes for all different regions of the province).

Not sticker related, but the feds have found another way to extract.
Seems ebay purchases will be taxed, beginning next month. Maybe they'll shut kijiji and others down until they figure out a way to extract from them too.

Dear eBay Canada Buyer,
Due to legislative changes in Canada’s tax laws, eBay will be required to charge and collect Canadian GST/HST, QST, and PST on applicable sales to Canada-based buyers, effective July 1, 2022. Please note that these changes will affect most e-commerce companies that operate in Canada.

That opens up a business opportunity for a freight forwarder in Alberta. On high value items (depending on size of item probably four or five figures to make it worthwhile), ship to the forwarder and they send it on to you to dodge PST.

Digital online purchases are being taxed in the States as well. NY to be specific with state taxes. 🤷‍♂️
Second guarantee in life.

I renewed this morning getting my driver's license ($90) and paper update for the plate N/C. Also getting a new OHIP card. I'll peel the old stickers off the plate in case I cross any borders to areas that want to go after expired stickers.
