Newbie ride?

So how many new riders want to join a ride or go explore, but are too nervous or intimidated to join a regular ride. Any interest in a group ride, low traffic, country roads. Real easy pace, no egos, no pushing. Mainly a chance to explore a bit, and meet other new riders. Show of hands?
im in, would like to join in and gain positive riding feed back. aug 4 sounds great to me. please pm me for meet ups and time? thanks tony

I'm in for sweeping, may bring the 125 like I said before. Do you have a headset iceman?

I dug up the link where the noobs crashed on the "noob friendly" ride I posted earlier in this thread. It might be worth looking at as it has a bunch of useful information for riding in a group as a noob. Have fun and ride safe. http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?165568-Last-Minute-NOOB-RIDE.

Riding resume for leader lol.

I agree with Sabex and highway - get back on the horse...

I also agree with frugalman that the route was somewhat intimidating, but the noobs handled the city traffic well.

Where they failed was their lack of judgment and inexperience in the sharp turns taken at "experienced rider speeds".

We as leaders and participants (noobs included) must watch out for each other while on group rides.

The goal is to have fun with all riders returning home safely. (Bikes included).

Get to know the leader before committing to a ride.

What is his/her riding style? Does it suit my skill level or taste?

Has he/she led group rides before?

Were they successful rides?

Riders should ask...

Where will the route take me? - City streets or out in the country? I have only done Mississauga streets and one or two country rides. No downtown experience at all, also no idea how to navigate downtown traffic.

What is the maximum speed during the ride? (i.e. 10 over etc.). I do not speed more than 10-15km/h+ over speed limit.

How heavy will the traffic be?

Will there be street car tracks, busy city traffic, lots of red lights and shifting? I have 0 street car track experience with CBR125.

Can I keep up...or do I still stall or can’t always find the right gear? I have trouble once in a while starting from first going to second, once or twice I still hit neutral instead of second gear during acceleration from stop.

Can I scan the road conditions without worrying about stalling or missing a gear? I do not know how to scan road condition. Used to living in city too long (ie: I can't tell sand or gravel on road because I do not know what to look for in road conditions, not used to sand or gravel in city or highway driving.)

From a safety point of view; have some level of experience before you join a group ride and feel free to bail if the ride does not fit your skill level or taste. I have 1000ish KM experience, half of it riding the same route after work and before night most of the time.

Don’t put your life and the lives of others you are riding with at risk.

Ride to stay alive - ride safe

End rant.

Unfortunately, I don't think I will be available this coming weekend :(. However, I can do weekdays :)!

Also isn't Caribbean this coming weekend too? Would it be too much traffic going in and out of Toronto?

Yes it is this weekend. I've been riding to work and there have been signs since last week saying Lake Shore is closed entirely. Probably worth avoiding the entire downtown area if you can help it.

No offence meant whatsoever dude, but do you seriously think it's a good idea for you to be leading any ride yet?

No I meant it as for whoever is leading. More that everybody knows about each other's experience, easier for leader to know what hes dealing with. Now you guys also get to know I have falling experience too :P

Yes, let's meet at Tim Hortons 3555 major Mackenzie drive, at cityview blvd. All are welcome, will be easy day, got a nice route in mind. We can add another meeting spot if needed. I'm thinking meet for 9, kickstand up by 9:45 or so. If you plan to come, post up and let me know. Macs, I don't have a headset, but my helmet has Bluetooth built in if it helps. Look forward to meeting and having a great ride.

This group ride is scheduled for 9AM on Sunday, Aug 4 correct?

Noob rides (depending how you define noob) sounds like a recipe for disaster especially in large groups.

That's this Sunday, aug. 4. The address is Major Mackenzie drive, just off the 400, at Cityview blvd. Just north of Woodbridge. Ymax, you're welcome to come if your scoot can sustain speeds of 80km/h or so. I'll be on a green Suzuki bandit1200.
