New truck - Engine / Transmission issues. Going to argue for dealer to give me a new a truck - frustrated.

...

Maybe it's just me, but I also find from the friends and acquaintances I know, it's the people that beat the **** out of their vehicles that last. I have a few friends that off road the **** out of their trucks and they are sitting at 150,000Kms with next to no issues. Look after your vehicle and daily drive it, the thing explodes way before 100,000Kms
I drive all my vehicles like they are rentals. I figure if I'm paying good money for a ride, she's giving me back every penny in work or excitement -- I save nothing for the next owner. Most of my cars go 10+ years 300-400K on basic maintenance, rarely an expensive repair (Ford Transit Connects excepted - they all ask for a $2500 tranny rebuild each 150k km - I knew this and baked it in my cost.

I see no reason for babying a vehicle - drive 'em like you stole 'em.

Mostly agree. I let the oil get up to temp first (10 to 15 minutes) before giving it the beans. Obviously I dont have enough personal data to determine if that is necessary but enough people smarter than me say it is that I am inclined to listen.

I should have mentioned I do that too, (im not a vehicular masochist). Moreso in the winter, I like a defrosted interior so I plug in at home, and warm up when away. I also roll slowly when it's really cold to give the suspension and tires a little time to wake up.

10-15 min. is not good for your CAT

When I had my WRX the car needed to be warmed up properly. Otherwise it was a horrid experience.

But once the fluids were nicely warmed up...that car was one of the most fun I had. Beat the living hell out of it...3s at a time as it was too fast for the road (as GTAM warned me).

Another update cause again a few people have been asking.

So I was told a month ago now the part was going to be shipped and delivered in 4-7 business days. I had 3 GM reps call me and tell me the "good news". I waited 2 weeks after this and heard nothing from the dealership - so decided to just drop in and see wtf is up.

I get there and by chance the head mechanic is at the front desk when I ask about my truck. He just shakes his head and gives a little chuckle - goes on to tell me they got the Valve Assembly last week and he did the repair. My truck can now go in reverse, I however have now lost 1st and 3rd gears lol. He goes on to say he has asked GM to ship him an entirely new transmission as that's what he feels I need, but GM won't do it - they will only ship ANOTHER valve assembly to hopefully fix 1st and 3rd.

I asked about a replacement vehicle at this point, what are the chances of this. He says he's worked at Chrysler / GM for 17 years...and he's only seen 1 vehicle replacement for a car that randomly went into park at 80 km/h that they couldn't replicate but almost got the driver killed.

He says the next valve assembly should be here in 5 business days, and it only takes 1 day to put the part in. It's been a week and a half now since talking to him, so.....HOPEFULLY I get this truck this week. I went back to see my truck cause I had to get some things from the back and I wasnt impressed. Covered in dirt and leaves, and the leather looks a little sundamaged from just sitting in the back lot all day for 3 months now - I wouldn't be surprised if it has a few scratches from moving it around which I'll look for when it finally gets fixed (if ever). Like mentioned before GM has graciously decided to cover my payments during this time which they will do once the repair is complete - however I'm going to be calling them again today and looking for a bit more since the repairs are failing. I still have a new truck I put a down payment for that should be done by November, so I'm going to ask about a voucher towards that in addition to my payments.

I've been trying to get to this, been busy!

So, I FINALLY got my truck back October 18th. It took 3 repairs with the final being an entitely new transmission assembly. So far its working ok, but funnily enough the service manager at the GM told me to get rid of the ******* truck. He said he's never seen anything like that, 3 repairs to fix a brand new transmission. He's aware of issues with the GM 6.2l motor but the transmissions have always been good. Luckily enough the new truck I had agreed to buy came in last week. The passenger side mirror had been cracked during the transfer, and I've been told thats pretty common (....sure). So the mirrors been replaced and I'm suppose to go tomorrow to see it and they can assess my old fixed truck and see what they are going to give me on a trade in. I'm interested to see as well - the dealer said they are going to have to sell it as a demo / floor model as no one is going to be able to buy an $80,000 truck at a used 7.99%. Also since the repairs are done in house and under warranty they don't have to disclose the issues it has had with the transmission. Shady as ****.

Anyhow, aside from that I'm still arguing with GM customer care. They are trying to say that they don't really owe me anything aside from an explanation on how shipping and receiving works and how it was ****** with COVID and that's why it took so long. **** that. I told them they have till tomorrow because I'm not buying new unless they at the very least pay me the amount of money for when it was in repair. It's up to them if they want to give up a $90,000 purchase over $5,000. It's also just the principle....like they should be giving me well more than just my payments, I feel I'm being generous to GM here. So after that conversation today they said they will call me tomorrow and hopefully come to a deal. I've been eyeing a Toyota Tundra with that nice matte army green, and at this point I'm ready to eat my GM employee discount to not deal with these idiots ever again.

I am quite surprised you are still willing to give that company a single $1 for what you went through.
Not necessarily for the faulty transmission, even though that is not right but more for all the BS.

So the buyer gets a UVIP when he moves on and sees he got scammed????

Tundras have their issues too

Dealer will just say that the owner wanted something different and traded it in on another car.

UVIP will just say 3 owners. Dealership - @Dr.Manhattan - Dealership.
Easily explained by the upstanding sales people at the dealership.

"Deadbeat buyer, didn't even make one payment and we had to repo the truck. He couldn't even afford the gas to drive it. Look how low the kilometers are. You are getting the deal of a lifetime."

I didn't think of that option. As a former car salesman, it would've never occurred to me. But I was young and naïve at the time.

Nowadays...not so sure.

There is a story to go with every story . Don’t think for 10 seconds ‘some’ dealerships will follow all ethical rules you might think should apply . There are some upstanding good guys , and then the rest that answer to dooshy sales managers
