New sportster

Single disc sucks - I had that on my VTX and the thing was a bear to stop in a hurry. I didn't realize exactly how bad it was until I took the advanced rider stuff a few years ago and riding side by side with my buddy on his Vstar 1100 (with a similar gross weight etc) & he was persistently demolishing me on the emergency threshold braking exercises. As were a lot of others on even heavier bikes.

People were actually sourcing wrecked VTX1800's and swapping the front forks (bolt on, apparently) to get the 1800's dual discs.

My current Vulcan 1700 would also demolish my old VTX any day in stopping tests despite being significantly heavier. But dual discs.

Looks like a great bike. But why do they have to take it to Laguna Seca? Seeing it going thru the corkscrew is as awkward as watching a bear cub play with its balls.

I had a similar but more advanced feeling when I first tried out mid-tier brembo's on a ducati.
The level of feel and precision, nevermind the insane stopping power was mind-blowing

I didnt know there was a vtx that wasnt the 1800. Vtx and 1800 were synonymous in my mind.

As far as dual vs single discs, with the right pads, on a single stop, I would expect both to be very similar. Without time to cool off, the single disc will lose performance much more quickly.

still think the new FTR is a better option, they got 17 inch wheels and more sport options now

the harley has a giant front tire and a single disc brake
Last I checked the FTR wasn’t really an urban cruiser style. Unless I’m getting my wires crossed.

^^^this. My panigale demo ride way back felt like the bike had "power brakes", compared to every other bike's "standard brakes". Awesomeness.

I was so confident in the brakes, I was basically going a spirited pace and late braking, was doing unintentional stoppies by the end of the ride.

Was a bit disconcerting because I'd never done them before

I really like it. 120hp, 95 ft/lbs torque and 500 lbs will make for a pretty fun bike to rip around town and I think it looks good. I'm not a fan of forward controls but one of the pics on the website shows mids so it's nice to know that will be a option as a accessory.

For me, forward controls are a complete no go. Too many years on bicycles means I need my feet under me to stand if things aren't going well. I don't even know if mid controls would make me happy as I don't know if I've ever tried them.

Beat me to it. 9k+ rpm limit!

I’m drinking the koolaid.

I want my feet somewhat under me or behind. You just lose so much control of the motorcycle with your feet way out front. Not my thing at all.

I’m also 5’8” with short legs so that doesn’t help lol.

Indeed. I figure having the option for some serious slabbing can only be a good thing though.

Anyone got a price on it yet?

There will be a mid-control kit for sure. Also the word "forward" can be taken with a grain of salt. On my HD with forward controls I still feel very comfortable and in control and my legs are far from being stretched out. But I do agree, not being able to stand on the pegs to get a better view of things was weird for the first few rides, then you just deal with it.
