New computer first world problems

Wtf man lol

Congrats tho. I'm still sitting on a 1080 Ti
Those are still really good performance for the price.

When I upgrade to the 3080ti I'll let you know incase you're in the market for an upgrade :ROFLMAO:

UPS just died.
Battery is $80. Slightly better UPS (USB charging & extra 120W) is $190.
I don't seem to need the extra wattage yet.

Have they come a long way in the last ten years?

I have 1300xs's and having been buying batteries for them. When I used to buy 550's or 750's I would normally just replace the whole thing. APC still runs charge voltage way too high to extra a few more minutes of run time at the expense of battery life.

I normally do amazon but look around each time. Make sure you get the right battery. There are two 1300xs. One has batteries top to top, the other one side by side. Guess how I know? Ugh.
O.k. It looks like APC is less expensive than Amazon at the moment. The picture I saw looks correct, as in side by side.

When the UPS dies, everything shuts off. Guess how I know?

How??
Asking for a friend.

It happened. Everything went off that was connected to the UPS. I had thought that when the battery died it would act like a power bar, but it doesn't.

wow, i did not know this.

I think it was beeping at me a while back, and I ignored it.

I'm thinking it lasted around ten years, which seems pretty good.

Luckily, I was home, and it failed on a Saturday at 7 a.m. and not in the middle of one of my wife's company meetings.

I would have had to build a doghouse to sleep in, if that had happened.

New battery is on order.
The half dozen resellers in the area, seem to be companies that set systems up for other companies.
If it wasn't covid season, I might have popped by a couple, and seen if they had any stock they could part with.

Looking for free software to clone a hard drive with boot to a new SSD in my laptop.

Is this something that you have to do manually or pay $50 U.S. for an annual subscription now?

probably Clonezilla. I haven't had to use it in years though.

Looked at that and several other programs. Ended up doing it in bits that the free software allows. There's instructions from PC Mag How to Copy Your Windows Installation to an SSD using two different free programs.

My cheap laptop went from 120 Gigabytes to a Terrabyte, plus the 120 Gig.

Software clowns like to eat up the disk space.

Any of you planning on an all AMD build next year?
Curious to see how performance is with the Smart Access memory feature for the Ryzen 9 5xxx cpu <=> Radeon 6xxx GPU.

Side note: Canada Computers seems to have a few more 3090's in stock @North York:

I'll probably build another Ryzen 7 or 9 for work but graphics card will be a reused GTX because I would get no value from the newer faster cards in that computer.

Kid built one last year, but it wasn't anything state-of-the-art. We probably won't be building anything new for a few years.

I know it's too late now, but for next time or for anyone else try Macrium Reflect. For comparison, you can do both of those steps with the same tool, and it generally makes things pretty simple.

Planning on building a 5800X based system once stock is no longer an issue... probably re-using my Vega 56. New build will have a bigger PSU so that the Vega overclocked fully won't drop the 12V rail to like 11.4 hopefully

too late as it looks like you found a solution
I used Macrium last year, free edition
flawless clone from HDD to SSD
maybe someone else could be looking

Thanks, I'll try that, probably in five years or so.
I ended up using AOMEI Backupper to disk clone the partition, and then MiniTool Partition Wizard to extend it. Both had one touch solutions behind a pay wall.
I seems to recall doing this before with MiniTool years ago, but it might have been in steps rather than a once step process.
