Dumb idea in the US. Thief will sue and win for emotional distress. They have ruined his ability to continue his career due to PTSD and they will have to pay support forever. Why are there no thieves in Brampton you might ask?
Not sure if this makes you feel any better about our cities but here in Milton desperate people are raising the bar.
Main and Thompson area.Where in Milton? I work there and am curious how far away we are with our work vehicles outside overnight.
A number of years ago I was talking to a trucker friend just after someone stole a truck loaded with 20,000 frozen turkeys. I asked him what the thief was going to do with them.Had dinner last night , one of the guests family run a metal recycling place . They will not take catalytic converters period . Several in thier industry won’t touch any that aren’t at least 5 yrs old . But like any business , look long enough and you’ll find kindred spirits .

I have talked to a few different people about illicit meats. There are many restaurants that are happy to buy economical quality meat at the back door without asking too many questions. That doesn't work for 20,000 turkeys but if a crooked butcher calls some distribution buddies, it's not that hard for each last mile crook to move dozens of turkeys with no trace.A number of years ago I was talking to a trucker friend just after someone stole a truck loaded with 20,000 frozen turkeys. He replied "All he needs to do is find one crooked butcher and that one will know another ten. Each of those will know others and in a few days they're all gone."
Never said it was a perfect solution, more of a deterrent. Bad guy sees this and hopefully move on to easier target. This is a bad idea. By definition, the thieves have metal cutting devices with them. You can still access from front or rear. Putting the split in the center makes it trivial to lean back on the fence and the two pieces will swing open like gates. Maybe, if you're lucky, they thieves are extra dumb or lazy and pick your neighbour instead but if they have half a brain, this is nothing. It also takes time and effort to setup every time you park. A far better implementation would a similar idea left permanently in your driveway (the most likely place to get hit). That can block three sides and can not be pulled apart by hand as the sides are not collapsible. You still have the problems of one open side and thieves with metal cutting devices. The open side could be dealt with by a locking swing gate (almost 100% chance you will drive into it and crush it though given enough time).
If you want to do something, the best I have seen so far is a heat resistant wire over the top of the cat. Not really visible from below and wire gets cut when they cut the pipes. Cutting that wire connects a car horn (easiest would be dropping a relay but there are other ways to accomplish the task). That both draws a lot of attention and makes it a very unpleasant place to continue working. You still need a repair but probably didn't lose any pieces. Some downsides are upfront cost and it's not trivial to avoid power drain from this type of system. On a vehicle driven daily, power is probably not an issue. If I drove a truck and parked outside at night, I might consider something. I try to drive lower vehicles that make access annoying (not too many thieves bring a jack on their exploits).
Never had gas stolen, but 2years ago of my pickup’s plates were stolen at the Pioneer station near Appleby and QEW.Some ********* knifed the gas tank on one of our work trucks. Two weeks ago they stole the plates. In Guelph

How can you prevent your plates from being stolen?
Cat was stolen from our ford service van last year. All on security camera. Video given to police. They contacted us about 6 months later. They arrested the ones responsible. In each of the theft cases at my buddies shop, everything was caught on video surveillance. Submitted to the cops.
They never get back to you if the video helped with the investigation.
I wonder how hard they really try to nab these guys.
How do you stop someone who has nothing to lose? Jail is old home week with free room and board. Shame is gone and past a certain point booze or drugs have destroyed the brain.Cat was stolen from our ford service van last year. All on security camera. Video given to police. Thieves could care less about cameras. Our van was about 20' from camera.

Stolen. The kid that stole him wanted a cat. His parents went nuts when he brought it home. He called us to come get the cat, but his dad took him to a park in Scarborough and released him before we got there. Was it stolen or did it get lost?
I would think if someone stole it they wouldn't give it back.
If someone found it, it would be more believable that they returned it.
he has quite the mean mug going on, i love it.Stolen. The kid that stole him wanted a cat. His parents went nuts when he brought it home. He called us to come get the cat, but his dad took him to a park in Scarborough and released him before we got there.
A week later another very nice lady called us saying she had taken in a friendly cat.
It was him. We got him back. I offered her a few bucks for her kindness, she said no so I gave $200 to the humane society in her name.
He’s 14 years old, we adopted him as a feral from the community that used to live in the ravine behind our house.
He’s like one of our kids.
