Why don't you just go get a brand new one from the dealer and finance it? You can keep most of your money in your pocket (invest it or pay off debt or something), get low cost financing, a warranty, and it holds resale value really well. I went cbr250 (and I 'might' be having the rumoured problems, but I also have warranty to make them fix it), but the same applies to the ninja as well.
You may also want to go to a 500 though too with your weight. I'm 180lbs and find the 250 a little sluggish, even as a beginner. I can't see myself keeping it more than a year, maybe to end of next summer max depending how things go.
