Mrs. Lightcycle got a new motorcycle!

Good to see they finally updated the dash. I despised the bizarre rectangle on the R1200RS

Gorgeous bike, congrats!

One thing to keep in mind with matte paints is anything that rubs on it like a tank bag will polish out the matte, don't use wash soap with wax in it for the same reason. Bugs and bird doodoo will damage the paint too. I doubt you guys care but throwing it out there.

My FJR is matte silver. So easy to care for. Bugs and bird doodoo haven't had any negative issues. It's the same paint just the clear coat is matte.
Beside who wants to wax their bike anyway. Time better spent riding.

I've never owned a vehicle with matte finish. The sales guy said not to clean bugs and grime by rubbing too hard or the matte will polish to a shine, but instead to "melt" the bugs off by placing a washcloth soaked in hot or boiling water over it and letting it sit for a few minutes.

Not sure who to believe. 🤷‍♂️

It is a pretty bike with a great finish so we do want to take care of it properly.

My Tenere is matte silver too, probably same colour as yours. 70k later and still cleans up pretty good.

Does have some markings from a tankbag and the area by my legs and jacket have polished out a bit, nothing super noticeable. I just know they're there. No negative effect from bugs or birds.

Matte paint, at least in my case, is not super fragile just something to keep in mind.

Lots of opinions and products for caring for matte paint as it becomes more popular on bikes and cars.

Most of the chemical companies offer special detailing products and polish for matte finishes.

This is how I remove bugs off the windscreen so not to scratch it

Congrats. Great looking bike. Is this instead of the hd or is the hd still coming next year?

No, she still has the F650GS. The RS is more for street-touring, which we'll be doing a bit of while we're here in North America.

The GS will still need to be replaced at some point because we don't want to keep throwing money at it for maintenance. But that's a next season/next year discussion. I still think the Pan Am would be a neat bike to try out, but it's up to Neda. Might just be a F750GS, but she is also throwing around the idea of getting an R1200GS. 🤷‍♂️

Effing ballers in this thread!

For a quick cleaning I use a micro fibre and glass cleaner.

Thanks for the info.

I've only used it a couple of times and it seemed to work okay. I'm old school as well, so stuff like the Hill Start Control and Cruise Control may break or malfunction and I probably wouldn't even notice it since I don't use it regularly.

Edit: Are you braking hard and then tripping the HSC by accident? You have to squeeze the brake lever/pedal pretty hard to activate HSC, but I can see maybe if you were emergency braking and then leaving the brakes engaged at the stop then maybe HSC thinks you want the hill start enabled? Just a thought.
No. Definitely does not occur while braking hard. In fact the exact opposite. The HSC seems to be very sensitive such that it engaged on gentle slopes with slow speed manoeuvres. The additional problem for a person of shorter stature is that I always look to a full stop where I can get a foot down when stopping, so if HSC is sensitive and engages unexpectedly, the inevitable happens and down you go. Nothing serious but I'd hate to see a beautiful new bike like that be scratched if it can be avoided.

I don't have a matte finish but I do use the wet cloth trick because I'm lazy and don't want to scrub. Even with cold water it works quite well.

I think my new Tenere has a matte finish on the tank. I'll find out when they deliver it.

I had a matt finish Triumph Tiger. HD dealerships sell a great, cheap matt detailer that works really well. It was recommended to me on another forum.

That’s a big bike for an old guy. T7 or T1200?
PM your address, tried to find your house. Memory is shot.

Sounds like a repair is in order, still under warranty?

I've never had the HSC engage in slow speed maneuvers. And I ride at slow speeds all the time, just ask anyone who's ridden with me!
