Mrs. Lightcycle got a new motorcycle!

Congrats, that colour actually looks awesome on that bike. It wouldn’t be my normal choice but it really accents the contours. Sweet bike and I’m sure it will see many miles!

Congrats on the new bike, very unique colour I like it (y)

Really nice bike. Dislike the colour, but nu-tech is impressive. That's a very sport touring model. Not planning much back/off road riding anymore?

Congratulations Beautiful bike! I have the older brother 2017 BMW R1200R (GS Junior)

One minor adjustment many RS owners do is to install bar risers to move the bars closer to the rider and up a bit

Also highly recommend machine Art Moto products for an integrated look for the rear mudslinger, cylinder head protection and their lights bars. Her Bike already has an engine spoiler so she does not need one nut I also have the Avant Guard slash guard to protect the engine face and headers from mud and rocks as the front fender is very short .

I take it the windshield is adjustable?

About that colour, it wasn't her first choice. She really wanted it all in Lupin Blue, like on the original R1200RS:

however, BMW has only offered the R1250RS in three colours for the past couple of years: Austin Yellow, Imperial Blue (a dark navy blue) and Black Storm. She didn't like either of them, but the yellow was the one she disliked the least. Kind of a snot yellow is how it was described.

However, when she saw it in person she was delighted. Pictures don't really show how gold the finish looks and how it picks up the light. It's like a muted version of the shiny gold forks. The other two colours offered - the dark blue and the black - really mask the contours of the bodywork, which is a shame because the new RS has really nice lines.

I joked that this should be her next upgrade:

We still have both the GSes, as well as both the enduros.

We split our time pretty equally doing dirt and street. Around where we live it would be a shame just to stick to tarmac as there are so many good off-road tracks and trails within a few minutes of our house.

Excellent information, thank you!

She hasn't complained too much about the seating position yet, but we'll give it a bit of time in the seat before she decides. The seat on the RS is amazingly comfortable. In fact, BMW has done a really good job with the seats, my GS is the first motorcycle where I haven't looked around for aftermarket alternatives. It's almost like they're trying to put the aftermarket suppliers out of business.

MAM has amazing products, that mudguard seems like a must. I was looking at the cool peek-a-boo ADVance handguard for my GS and I also like the look of those X-Head 1250 cylinder head covers.

Yep, just a strong tug or push on the top of the windscreen and it clicks into high or low. Can be done while riding.

Also there are two different screw holes to mount the windscreen, the second set being two inches higher than where the factory set it, so you actually have a choice of four positions:

My wife was all about the tall screens and getting a bubble of still air behind the windshield, but I convinced her to lower the screen all the way to the lowest setting and try just getting clean air to the helmet. She's a convert now.

I have to say looking at other pics the gold really does show the lines well. And it is a beautiful bike

Congratulations to Neda on a beautiful bike for many more years of riding in style!

Gene you mentioned the hill start control feature. I don't know if you have it on the GS but on my RT I found that it would sometimes engage at the most unexpected or inopportune times. I've turned it off for now and gone back to familiar old school methods. Just a caution.

Thanks for the info.

I've only used it a couple of times and it seemed to work okay. I'm old school as well, so stuff like the Hill Start Control and Cruise Control may break or malfunction and I probably wouldn't even notice it since I don't use it regularly.

Edit: Are you braking hard and then tripping the HSC by accident? You have to squeeze the brake lever/pedal pretty hard to activate HSC, but I can see maybe if you were emergency braking and then leaving the brakes engaged at the stop then maybe HSC thinks you want the hill start enabled? Just a thought.
