It did until I talked to the guy. I could buy another CB500X for the cash difference he wants. Hard pass on that one.

I understand it's a more expensive bike overall....but for me to give my bike, AND enough cash to buy another one...no thanks.

What was the asking price after you said you had a 500x that you'd be trading?

My bike + $5500 for a total of $11,500 as he assumed 6k for mine.

I'm not saying it's a bad price (as I don't know enough about BMW) but I'm not in a position to drop that type of coin in addition to the bike.

Its got chain drive and that twin cylinder architecture has been around and used on many models so probably very reliable

Not saying it's a bad price/bike...I'm just not dropping another 6k on top of my bike. I may as well live in the Volt at that stage if I tell my wife that I just spent an additional fist full of cash on a toy, as we consider a puppy (which ain't cheap either!)

I think he might be a couple g's over priced after looking at a few on the www

I think it's over priced to start, you wouldn't be able to get $8k for that GS next year, post pandemic prices. It's not even the more sought after GSA model. For an extra few $, you could get a brand new T7, and maybe score 0% financing for a year. Or, this Africa twin, for even less, and more bike

There's similar bikes (with more kms) in the GTA for 2-3k less. Mind you he's got the full luggage which is a pretty penny in itself. Then again...so do I with the side cases.

Anyway no big deal. For now I'm well set with the X, and if something comes along in an 883 Orange I may pull the trigger to sell/buy in short order. Until then...I'll just enjoy what I have.

I don't know anything about used bike prices, but at 11500 you are in a brand new from a dealer 2020 F750GS territory.

Can even score a fully kitted out, low KM 990 for less - 2009 KTM 990 Adventure | Dirt Bikes & Motocross | Ottawa | Kijiji

There was a post in the CBX ADVrider section, from a BMW Mechanic who installed the Rally Raid kit on a friends CBX, and he wrote about how much better that option is compared to the F800GS at the time, in terms of ride, durability, price to use factor, weight, milage, feel etc... So i think even for such a trade, you'd be better of getting a brand new 2019 CBX with a 19in wheel, and still have spare change
 
That's bare bones. No options, no bags, no freight+pdi+tire fees+etc. It's closer to $15K before tax, specced the way you want it.

Yeah, but it's 10 years younger. And you have to a pay a tax on a used one as well, though you can get a bit creative with the "price" for sure.

Also COVID = no creativity with pricing. You pay sticker because of no inventory.

I'm not saying that @mimico_polak should get one, I'm saying $11500 for 2011 800GS seems to be too much.

I wasnt referring to a specific model just BMW pricing in general

Not sure I would compare it to the 800GS, which has spoked wheels, better weight distribution, and imo, a better bike, more comparable to the 850GS. Though yeh, even with all the farkles, that listed GS is over priced for it's age and what is available now days.

i remember seeing an Africa Twin, with less than 10k kms a few years back, less than a year old only go for $9k on kijiji, always regretted that one. I'd get a 16-18" AT over that GS anyday

I got my bike at MSRP - current BMW promo - minus extra discount + free winter storage. So yeah, if it doesn't align - it doesn't align in customer's favour. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
