MotoGP 2014

I've been disappointed with JL's performance this year. He used to be the king of the starts, but he's botched 2 out of 4 this year. Also the last 2 races, it seemed like he didn't try to defend his position against Pedrosa. I've been wondering if there's something going on in his personal life that is preventing him from doing better (not that 4th place is terrible, lol).

Also, according to this website, he blames his lack of physical fitness:

Any thoughts on whether this is just an excuse? Or any other theories out there?

Maybe a combination of things. Pressure tends to snowball, one mistake compounds to many and your headspace becomes all fracked up in the week or two between races. Also the Hondas seem to like the Bridgestones better than the Yamahas.

And last but not least, Marquez is just faster, younger and the media loves him more than Lorenzo.

Too much Iberic Ham

I agree with lightcycle .. The pressure is definitely adding up for JL .. Even in the press conference .. The media asked him what he thought about MM saying three times that Dani was the biggest threat for the Jerez race.. Seems they're trying to add to the rivalry between MM and JL

Thank God the kid finally did a victory wheelie, was making me sic with all that victory celebration hand waving...I guess he was saving it for the home crowd

Kinda sucks that there is no 1st/2nd battle, but good for Vale, hopefully he can keep the momentum rolling. I dont he can win the championship unless something happens to MM, but Id love to see him finish this year off close to the top

“The race was worse than I expected and my physical condition was worse than I expected also so we need to work more on that and wait for our moment."

Excuses excuses...

And wait for his moment? 4 races in, what exactly is he waiting for? Marquez to get hurt?

I'm a fan of JL's, followed his move into the premier class. I'm not sure what's going in with him other than I think it's mental stress/confidence. I hope he can figure it all out as I miss the battles for the top spot. It can't be easy on these 'top tier' moto athletes when a 'young gun' comes in to steal their 'thunder'. I saw it with DP, he was supposed to be Honda's 'number 1' but hasn't won a championship. Yes he had various injuries preventing it but also I believe there's a mental challenge there as well.
I have much respect for all the riders and MM is a phenomenon in the sport right now. Like VR when he came up into the premier class but much more consistent in his debut year and successive year to date.

I think JL is definitely feeling the pressure. Perhaps his expectations (stemming from last season) is getting to him. He probably thought he could dominate (as he did the final races last season) the field and put pressure on MM, and possibly be fighting it out early for the championship. Also, he was probably so used to being at the top in every practice/qualifying that him struggling and fighting it out just to be in top 10 was getting to him.

In other words little drama queen can't handle it

New to motogp and this racing scene, but why do their bikes wobble as they come out of a corner?

An example is at 1:14 with stoner's bike.
