Mosport renovations

Another half ass story by the spec. I learned years ago not believe anything that paper says.

Are they paving it or not? And am I the only one who loved mosport as is? I love that track.

Certainly looks like it T.

The fear factor of turn 2 will be slightly lessened, also the track will lose a little in it's charactar with the concrete strips removed.

Still got my fingers crossed that the Mcmosport will survive the renovations for 2013.

I loved the track the way it was before the Panoz purchase and its subsequent castration.
That’s when it lost its character.

Build it and they will come. This applies to the hotels, motels and all the other service related businesses that would be involved with a Mosport that brings in huge crowds of racers and fans.

Sorry to deflate your balloon but... that only works in the movies.

Back in it’s hay day Mosport couldn’t support more then a couple of major and three or four lesser events per season. Hell 1967 was it’s biggest year with five international races. Nearly 60,000 people saw the first F1 Canadian Grand Prix. The following year the only major race was the Indy cars.

Nope, no major motel / hotel chain or food franchise is going to invest in a project that sees only a couple of weekends of potential profit. Not even with the 407 going right past it's main gates.
Now if Clarington was build a casino out that way well, that would surely help entice growth and in turn Mosport’s future. But, like dat's gonna happen' eh?

Has anyone posted mosport track dates for 2013?

Wrong. I live here and Mosport certainly effects our local economy.
Holiday Inn just built a big hotel, Howard Johnsons is into a very big reno. Bowmanville has a brand new Canadian Tire (The BIGGEST in Canada) that frequently gives away free passes. As you drive through town all summer you see loads of race rigs. You see teams wearing uniforms in our resturants. Not to mention the direct jobs with local people that work there.
I am not a fan of the renos as it will be the end of bikes at the track. They are not doing this for bikes. EVERY event that comes needs a weekend from an already full schedule so someone will lose their weekend. No trackdays will happen as the safety costs make it VERY expensive to set up and unless they can piggyback off weekend race events (there are only three) and share the costs I cant imagine a trackday provider getting the money needed to break even.
I guess we will see but my recommendation is if you want to ride the track better get to it.

With the new seating upgrades they could likely consider using the facility to do outdoor summer concerts and festivals as well. Race all day party all night!!!

Running off track in Mosport's high speed corners has resulted in a lot of broken bones.
.

Paved run-off is not the best for bikes. It leads most to believe they have a big area of safety for mistakes. In reality it allows you to get closer to the barrier faster! Example: Turn 2 is no where as intimidating with the paved run off so you go in harder, over shoot the corner,no big deal you run it wide,,you now are half way to the barrier and realize it's not going to work. Now if you lay it down you still slide to the barrier. It's not great for bikes. Cars/Trucks,, four big wide tires can scrub off a lot of steam faster then bikes so it works for them. There was zero thought put into this for bikes. Much like when Calabogie started. Now Bogie kind of wishes they could back up some.
The paved run off will change the impact points and demand much more from any safety products.

What saves Calabogie from a lot more crashes is the quality of its pavement. Not just the relative lack of bumps (although the back straight will get a litre bike pawing for the sky with a couple of rollers if you aren't right on the best line) but the grip available. That said, I sheared the side off my tire back in 2010 and lowsided on 20. You probably don't recall, John, but that was good for a shoulder patch and a stitched arm for my suit.

If bogie had sand traps installed in the fast corners such as 1 it would be one of the safest tracks around

There is a big gravel trap in one. But one is not the big problem. It surely wrecks bikes and most come back in the front end loader. But in my opinion,,4,7,12B,13,15 and 20 have higher rates of injuries per crash then one. One is way safer then 4 at Mosport and nobody really recognizes that.

There's plenty of room if you're off-line. I quit worrying about it but my sense of self-preservation keeps me from going into it in sixth gear... heh

Despite the speeds I'm travelling, I've had both 1000s go eerily sideways on me through 4, 7 and 10 over the mountain, which are all full throttle in 4th gear. A highside at those corners is going to end badly for rider OR bike.
