Moral dilema

If you inadvertently were the cause of damage to a persons car (could be buffed out, not a great car or anything) and this same person at one point had tried to run over your dog purposefully and admittedly, would you pay them the insane $800 they demand or would you tell them karma is a *****?

karma is a *****!! move on!

and if anyone tried running over my dog they wouldn't be able to drive anyway cause both knee caps would be broken!!!!

They sound like completely separate issues, with no connection. So doing damage to their car, should pay.

Wrong is wrong, regardless if you like them or not.

you're just justifying for not doing the right thing.....On one end you "assume" and "think" that she tried to run your dog over, on the other hand there is clear evidence that you are at fault for damages...gee, i wonder what the right thing to do is...

Couldn't agree more. What if he inadvertently damaged the guys bike, I'm sure he would want him to pay.

Assuming your version of events is 100% accurate, then that person is a dink.

It is unreasonable to ask $800 for scuffs that can buff right out, but if you caused those scuffs with your car then you're in a bind because your insurance may rape you for an at-fault accident. The only way out that I can see is to get someone qualified to covertly buff out the scuffs for $50 and a glimpse of cleavage. Then when they ask for crazy money you can legitimately say "car damage? what damage?" Take before and after pictures though.

I don't know if I would just pay the $800 (I'd ask for multiple quotes first), but I would extend the olive-branch and offer to make it right.

and if anyone tried running over my dog they wouldn't be able to drive anyway cause both knee caps would be broken!!!!
Feisty...

The "right" thing to do is to pay for the damage or get it fixed yourself if that's an option. Even if that person inflicted damage on you or your property (which isn't the case, the "attempt" notwithstanding).

That being said, I don't know a single person who turns the other cheek all the time. Justice and morality are not synonymous. There are days I hold myself to a higher level of integrity and days when I succumb to my emotions. Something like a scuff to an enemy's car is so trivial I wouldn't feel that bad about telling him to F himself and walking away. If I had run over his pet or something that would be a different story. Just be prepared to deal with the repercussions of your actions should you choose to walk away.

Sound like the guy is trying to get more from you than he deserves. Like someone already mentioned ask him to get more quotes and suggest some places that are repuatable.

Everyones morals are different so go with your gut feeling on what is right to you.

if you're not going to post the whole story, why bother at all? are your morals and scruples so paper thin that you need the anonymous masses of the internet to side with you so you feel vindicated in whatever decision your conscience is struggling with?

Yeah..that'll buff right out...

Two seperate issues unfortunately, but then again we don't know the whole story.

Soooo........As Foxxy says, there is never an excuse good enough for trying to run over your dog and it appears you moved on from it. Our dog was considered a family member so that's not cool and may have resulted in intentional damage being done to their vehicle at that time anyways.:violent1:

But, since it appears that this is not the case but rather just an unfortunate incident on a vehicle that does not warrant $800 to repair, perhaps offer $200 for a buff and wax which may remove the damage.

so are you purposely not going to tell us the full story about them trying to run down your dog to gain sympathy or to convince yourself you're doing the right thing?

you sound shady already... the other person gets my vote.

Are you so socially inept in the real world that you now want people on the internet to hate you too? I don't really mean that but I find these types of comments (aka attacks) ironic in that the same can basically be said of you. For those of us who don't have an inflated e-ego, message boards are a place to chat and debate things big or small with somewhat like-minded individuals. Why blast Red for posting this scenario? I'm not really trying to swoop to the rescue here or anything (though I would for you Red ) but I felt the need to point out the uselessness of such comments.

Tittie flash and say your even.

+1 x2. . .

sometimes it's tough to be the better person, but trying to justify one's inappropriate behaviour by pointing the finger at someone else's inappropriate behaviour is the kind of thing i hear all the time from my kids. . .adults know better. . .

Please leave my social ineptitude out of this, my e-ego is far too fragile.

On a side note - you post on a public message board asking for opinions - you can't cry to mama if the opinions offered don't always side with you. My opinion is that posting half a story and asking for moral direction from a bunch of people who have no connection or tie and have no other information than the few biased sentences posted says enough about the author in the first place.

But in the interest of keeping the peace - two wrongs don't make a right. You smash someones propertly, inadvertently or not, you are LEGALLY OBLIGATED to have the damage repaired. Doesn't mean you need to get soaked in the process though.

Cue the internet white knights to the rescue! Maybe she'll pm you a titty pic if you do an EXTRA good job of defending her honour.

Opsie... i actually just skimmed through the original post... i thought the two issues were related! my bad.

If it was in fact and accident and you are at fault i would pay to fix it. But get a few quotes from a few different places. So your both happy.

However, if you decided to take a baseball bat to their car cause they were literally trying to hit you dog them I'm totally on your side!
