Managing amateur track day risk

I think Franko was talking about on-track marshalls... same thing as control riders. I agree that corner worker marshalls wouldn't be wearing high visibility vests.
Yes, control riders is what I was talking about.

This is going to sound completely ridiculous to some, but the big thing I do is avoid weekend trackdays.
I do the same, but am starting to wonder if it makes any difference. Yesterday's trackday at Mosport ended at 4:00 after one rider rear ended another rider.

It seems there are more trackday crashes as it warms up or people get more confident... Anyone else notice this as a trend?

I find there is usually a crash the first session in the morning, the first after lunch and the last of the day.

I've been living by the "I don't ride in those sessions' rule for about 5 years now.

Broke my own rule at calabogie a few weeks ago(rode first session after lunch) and crashed a $25k bike.

OOOPS!

yes Ive seen this happen, at least yours was close to the end of the day. Hope there weren't any serious injuries?

I don't ever ride the first or last session. After lunch. maybe..

I've been skipping the last session as well. I'm just too exhausted to ride safely at that point.

Eden has the EXACT same rules Donny- great minds eh?

I don't think it was too serious, but I really don't know.

Once in a while I skip the last session (when I am too tired to ride well) but I kind of need the first session to shake down the bike and for me to start to get in the groove.

Yep I pretty much always skip the last session of the day as well. As others have said I am usually feeling pretty mentally tired by that point. Don't normally skip the first of the day and first after lunch though, usually just take it easy during those sessions, in the morning to get in the mindset and warmed up and after lunch I am usually pretty lethargic after eating/napping/resting so tend to be naturally slower, haha.

I find "TAKING IT EASY" is a recipe for disaster.

The after lunch lazy's is EXACTLY why I don't ride, its asking for trouble.

It's high time that you embrace your natural talent and stop fighting it. Repeat after me - "My name is Recipe, and I'm a crashaholic"

I can "take it easy." In fact, I'm better at it. ;)

But seriously, I also skip the last session of the day most days. I'm usually worn to a nub by then and any changes I've made to the bike or my style are unlikely to get a fair shakedown. On the other hand, I've done them a few times when they let the different groups mix on an open track and it's kinda fun in its own way... (let the flames begin)
