Managing amateur track day risk

It's much more difficult for the slower riders to follow the racing lines as the track is much longer when you're going slower. So they don't need to swoop out of the turn or get tinto the arc of turn in order to go through. However, it would still be good practice to follow those lines consistently. Then you can tell yourself "next time I'll hit those same marks but just a little quicker". You must hit your marks!

Here's a few tips I can offer;
DO NOT look back while on track - it doesn't matter what's behind you
DO NOT look back and wave faster riders by - this will mess you and others up badly
DO NOT look around for your friend and then slow down waitng for him to catch, all the while looking back (see tip #1)

DO get as much training as possible
DO watch the fast guys and what they do - lines, body positiing
DO look deep into the corner - if you're correcting bike direction through the turn you're not looking deep enough
DO talk to faster riders

Most of all be consistent and predictable.

Stay safe my friends!

Uh Oh, I ALWAYS look back, wave faster riders by and wait for my friends.............am I a bad person?!? :/

I'm surprised you have any with your attitude.

I don't think anyone was trying to stop the discussion of mitigating track day risks. But it's rather soon to be discussing THIS particular track day incident. And yes, even though you're a cold hearted *** (by your own admission) I would think you would be able to see that.

On topic:
I have only been to one track day with one organiser, but regardless of day or organiser there will always be risk and as far as I've seen, the organisers have tried to minimize that risk whenever possible. But at the end of the day, like driving on the street, anything can happen.
Weren't you and Cabosee good friends?
I have a bad attitude as well, but I find that people with bad attitudes are the firts ones to lend a hand when needed.

Also the bad attitude in most cases comes from having to deal with the general population of idiots out there in the world, once you reach certain points in your life, you just don't give a damm about what people think about you.

Not even sure why I am bringing this up...carry on

This is going to sound completely ridiculous to some, but the big thing I do is avoid weekend trackdays.

When Jason ran his PIMP days, they would have marshals out wearing a high visability vest and see how everyone was doing.

Marshalls in general will call in someone who's riding like a maniac. Wearing a high-visibility vest is discouraged due to similarity with flag colors.

I don't buy it. I think we can all figure out if a vest is being waived or riding by.

It's common place at the US track days to have vested control riders.

Turn2 ARC instructors wear vests as well.

I'm talking about marshalls not control riders.

I think Franko was talking about on-track marshalls... same thing as control riders. I agree that corner worker marshalls wouldn't be wearing high visibility vests.
Not at TMP, we are also discouraged from wearing any flag colors that will get riders confused..which makes sense

We're gettting off topic but marshalls should wear white or sometimes orange. I think that's pretty much the world standard.
