MacDoc's new ride 2015 CB300 to 2018 MT03 to 2017 GS310 now sold!

Longer gap to deliver GS and get CB500F so went out for a short spin on the GS and enjoyed it. Will do a few more before I hand over.
Meanwhile browse the forsale ads. This came up

Low seat, low weight for inline 4, detuned R1 - bags of power. reasonable KM
Bit more rider forward lean angle but not much.
Much fun to be had. Red n White a bit ugly. I'd guess fuel mileage sucks
50lb more than the CB500F !!!
I recall my son's 2013 FZ8 was stupid top heavy and very fast.

This is cruel...they finally get affordable

but don't think seating is right for me anymore. But but IT'S RED!!!
Seat height is fine but crouch is not. 534 lb hefty brute ...but oh what fun. Will have to remain the one I missed out on.

It would not quite be the rush of the CBF1000 but close. Hmmm109 HP...maybe it would.
CBF1000 is 106 but oh what a flat torque curve.

Didn't know this bike at all.

2016 Kawasaki 300z

AU$3,500
Nother rider thinks 11,000 km gets him into a 1000z....he'll be in a for a surprise when he sees the requirements for open license here.

39 HP would be fun, not a light weight tho...170kg. 8,000k at Hwy speeds a bit off putting.
Would not be for me as seating too raked

To get an open motorcycle license in Queensland, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Pass the motorcycle hazard perception test: You can take this test online at the Queensland Government website

  • Hold your RE learner license: You must hold your RE learner license for at least 90 days, or at least one year if you were exempt from the pre-learner course

  • Complete the Q-Ride restricted (RE) course or pass the Q-SAFE riding test: If you live within 100 kilometers of a Q-Ride training area, you must complete the Q-Ride course. If you live outside that area, you can take the Q-SAFE riding test

  • Be at least 18 years old: You must be at least 18 years old to apply for a motorcycle license in Queensland

  • Have held a provisional or open driver's license for at least one year: You must have held a provisional or open driver's license for at least one year

  • Be medically fit: You must be medically fit and disclose any relevant medical conditions

Picking up little clues I missed before.
This is actually a CB500X

He actually just listed it as a CB 🥴
I might have opted for that over the CB500F I grabbed at $3800 but he wasn't going low enough and not thrilled with the colour. 44k km is fine and he's likely closer to market value. It is a fall back
Not fond of first model year and the seat is an inch higher than the F
I do prefer that seat layout over the split seat on the F.

Interesting comment since I had considered a KTM390 briefly.
Given the mess KTM is in and comments like these - glad I stuck with Honda

The bike I should have bought in the first place!

I got my licence last year (I'm one of those mid-life crisis types!) and I bought with my heart and purchased a KTM Duke 390. I pretty much hated it from the second day... the bike although cool looking was very jerky in traffic and not comfortable at all.
When I dropped it in for a service I was given a CB500f as a loaner.....WOW! what a difference. So much smoother, calmer and comfortable. It may not look or sound as good as the KTM but it rides so much better.

I traded the Duke in on the Honda the next day and have never looked back.
FWIW

2020 RE Bullet - in love with that seat. Not so much with the weight or 5 speed tranny. 27 HP is just okay for here. 11k km so little ridden. 31.7" seat height it okay. Really retro.
2020 Royal Enfield Bullet. Great condition. Nice learner bike. Comes with a heap of extras (not pictured). 350cc LAMS approved. Regrettable sale. Price is negotiable. Pick-up Tolga. No tyre kickers.

Love the retro look of those bikes.

50k km, low seat...85 HP ....upright seating ( so they say ) risers would bring it up a bit more
Fun bike ....good big tank but expect the fuel mileage not so sterling but 45 mpg....fun and well priced ..no boredom.
90KG more than my CB300 - but good value for money. Not sure if top heavy like my kids FZ800 was.
then we have storage at the rear to deal with but it's a potential ride:unsure:

2022 Royal Enfield himalayan AU$5,000

one owner, 9k km Roadworthy, 6 month rego. but a lot more than the CB500F which I know fits me and way quicker tho no sport bike.

Well what a testimonial from the CB500F forum.(y)
There are bikes I have not ridden so I can't say what is "Best", but I have now done 300,750 km (187,000 miles) on my CB500F and she has never let me down. I turn 87 in Feb, so probably qualify as "older rider". I live in Lismore, NSW. Australia so can ride all year and we travelled 52,900 km, together in 2024, our longest day's ride being 640 km. She will probably out-live me. Is there anywhere a CB500 that has travelled further? She may not be best, but I would not swap her.
Damn I am flattened after a 300 km ride and he's 10 years older.
and did 52,900 km last year !!!

Despite my growing respect for the CB500 bikes ....some neat deals coming around.
MT-07 for $5500 asking ...good deal considering I got $4800 for my 2017 MT-03

In great condition. The Yamaha MT-07 (2016) is a naked middleweight motorcycle that stands out for its balance of performance, agility, and affordability. It features a 689cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which produces around 74 horsepower and 68 Nm of torque. This engine configuration provides a punchy mid-range, making it suitable for both city commuting and weekend fun on winding roads.has been well-maintainedand has had its major service at 40,000 km

The 2016 Yamaha MT-07 has a curb weight of 182 kg. The wet weight of the Yamaha MT-07 is between 395–399 lb (179–181 kg)
By comparison by CB300F was 150 kg with less than half the HP and the GS 170kg with about 1/2 the HP
31" seat height. Very upright. Certainly some thrill in the throttle with 75HP on that relatively low weight.

I am sure I would have lost my license if I had one.
Likewise! I'd love to try one some day though...just for kicks. One of the members here offered me to try his Busa when I had my 250...I passed because I def didn't have enough experience to jump on that monster.

I slightly regret not taking him up on that offer though...

I got offered a brief run on The Widowmaker - Kawasaki 750 triple two stroke.
I felt like laundry hanging onto the bars when it hit the powerband.
300px-Kawasaki_H2_750cc.jpg

....

Mimico you might want to consider that MT-07
They measured a top speed of 238.01 km/h (147.89 mph), 0 to 1⁄4 mi (0.00 to 0.40 km) time of 12.13 seconds at 173.33 km/h (107.70 mph), 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) time of 3.80 seconds and 0 to 100 mph (0 to 161 km/h) time of 10.51
The H1 had a high power-to-weight ratio for the time, 45 kW (60 hp) and a dry weight of 384 pounds (174 kg), comparable to a top racing motorcycle, but had generally poor handling and weak drum brakes front and rear. It could accelerate along the 1/4 mile test course in 12.4 seconds.

Just looked closer at the Hyabusa....intimidating dash - the next segment is 300kph and it's an 11k redline on that monster powerplant. Can almost feel the rush.

I'm sure there are but perhaps not in price range or with as upright seating and I'm committed to "watching paint dry" CB500F :sneaky: unless I flip it.
If you can find one
for the Cairns Australia region.....let me know. 🍿
