Looking to develop a second career

I don't mind a summer job to pay for college. Anyone know what the startup is on a hotdog stand and also what the licensing requirements be(provincial/local) etc..

Appreciate everyone's input. Thanks:cool:

I did a lot of research on this... I was going to start one on my 3rd year of uni. Problem is I don't have a car or services to pull the cart to location/ i don't have a place to store it.

Anyways, it cost about $2000-4000 for the cart, $500-700 for licences/ permits/ inspection. Location, location, location. Find a good location and you will be making $500+ a day.

$500+ in revenue or profit.. can't be profit if it were all the bankers would be selling hotdogs:p

Wow! I'm right!

In all seriousness I'm thinking about investing in a hot dog stand. Low start up costs and people will always be hungry.
I heard that licenses downtown can be as much as 500 000. No clue if that's true or not, but owning a hot dog stand can be pretty profitable (if you do the math!). Bread costs cents...hot dogs are some of the cheapest meat...low overhead, low wage, condiments take a long time to re-supply, etc. From what I was told, you'd be making silly money if it weren't for the licensing fees. But great money's definitely good enough.

Yeah, I'm putting the bar off till 32 probably. The point is to pay off all business debts and have 3-5 locations providing constant cash flow so I can do things without taking loans etc...
Well, when that time comes...hit me up. I've already passed screening for Tilted Kilt LOL.

Was at a concert at Molson Ampitheatre a couple summers ago and there was a guy selling hot dogs at the end of the parking lot before crossing this bridge towards the ampitheatre. He would get people that parked cars there but also got the people walking in from taking the TTC..

He was also charging $10 for a sausage and canned drink which is totally a ripoff. Still, while I was waiting for somebody, I counted how many people bought from him and he sold enough to make at least $1000 in under an hour. That night, I wouldn't be surprised if he made revenue of $3000+. Given his location in the parking lot, I also sort of wondered if he was licensed to be there. And given how much cash he probably had in his pocket, he would of been a great target to get held up and robbed.

I'm suprised the carts don't come with a built-in money drop. Leave the key at home and someone has to steal the whole cart to get the cash (obviously they could get whatever you kept out for change, but that shouldn't be much).

I don't live in Toronto and won't operate there. From what I've researched, you just need normal business outdoor vendor license in K-W in the $300 range for each city. If you're a food trucks there's another $2500 license fee on top. I'll be a pull behind trailer exempt from the food truck fee.
